In a touching post from the height of the pandemic, Donnie Wahlberg updated fans and followers on the health of his mother, Alma. Like so many of us, the Wahlbergs – including Donnie’s brother, Mark Wahlberg, were unable to see their beloved mom for long stretches of time as COVID-19 took – and continues to – take hundreds of thousands of lives across the globe.
That July (2020), Donnie posted a heartwarming photo as he embraced his mother upon their long-awaited reunion. He wears his mask within, while Alma’s face radiates nothing but pure joy.
“I know that so many of you have asked how my mom Alma is doing. During my visit, she didn’t remember much, and was often confused, but somehow she was still Alma,” Wahlberg began. “She still lights up a room. She still made me smile. She’s still stubborn. And she still loves her baby Donnie. I thank you all, for your well wishes. Sending my heartfelt love, and sincerest wishes, to all those away from their loved ones. That you will be together again. Love you all so much. See you soon.”
Tragically, Alma Wahlberg would pass Sunday, April 18, 2021. She was 78-years-old. While the exact cause of death is unknown, her sons Mark and Donnie have previously eluded to her health declining amidst her struggle with dementia on Instagram.
“I’m so blessed to have been brought into this world by, raised by, taught by, and set on my life’s path by, such an amazing woman,” Donnie writes Sunday of his mother’s passing.
Remembering Alma Wahlberg (1942-2021)
“My mom Alma’s joy for life, love, and people — combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from — undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am. I’ve often said if you like anything about me, I got it from Alma,” Donnie Wahlberg continues of his late mother. “I say that because it’s true. She was, without a doubt, the most loving human being I’ve ever known. I never heard her say, or do, anything disrespectful to anyone. She was, as anybody whoever came across her knows, true blue.”
Alma was many things to many people, including the mother of seven children. Her two most famous, Donnie and Mark Walhberg, have long been staples of the entertainment industry. She would feature in the reality television series “The Wahlbergs” with both sons, amongst the majority of their family. For much of her life, however, Alma was dedicated to helping others as a nurse.
“That was Alma – mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, friend, ally, warrior, angel,” Donnie pens of the beloved matriarch. “She made no apologies for who she was, but never put herself above anyone else. She kicked our butts if we messed up, kicked anyone else’s butts if they messed with us. Taught us right, made us pay the price when we were wrong. She was the epitome of the word grace.”
“It’s time to rest peacefully, mom…. I love you, miss you, thank you and will celebrate you, today and always. Forever — your Baby Donnie,” Wahlberg concludes Sunday.
Rest in Peace, Alma.
