John Schneider played Bo Duke from 1979 to 1985 on the classic television show “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Well, for most of that time, anyway. Fans will remember the slight hiatus he and Tom Wopat took due to a contract dispute. But besides that, Schneider worked hard during those years. And these days, he’s still hard at work. The now-61-year old can’t even begin to think about the prospect of retirement.

From the beginning, John Schneider has been a hard worker. His role as Bo Duke on “The Dukes of Hazzard” was his big break, but working on the classic show wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Schneider has talked about how difficult the show was to film. It required a lot of dedication. And more than 35 years later, he brings that same dedication to his work every day.

In an interview with Closer Weekly, “The Dukes of Hazzard” star reflected on his life, having just turned 61. When he was asked if he ever thought about retiring, he couldn’t even begin to entertain the thought.

“Oh no! Retire? I could not imagine. We keep making the movies we love. I write every day. I’ve got enough completed screenplays that even if I live to be 120, I am still not going to live long enough to finish all the stuff I want to do!”

And the list of stuff he wants to do is a long one. In the years since “The Dukes of Hazzard,” in addition to maintaining a successful TV acting career, Schneider has branched out into music and theater. He did all of this while raising a family, mind you.

‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ Star Has Turned His Focus to Writing

As his comment suggests, John Schneider has been busy churning out screenplays. And at least a few of them are currently in post-production.

Fans of the classic show may not realize that the Bo Duke actor actually wrote an entire episode of “The Dukes of Hazzard.” It was a 1985 installment titled “Opening Night at the Boar’s Nest.” These days, Schneider is busy writing feature-length films.

“Tres Leches” is a comedy film that follows three friends after they’re hired to drive a car across the world, only to discover that they’ve been smuggling drugs across international borders. It is directed, written by, and stars John Schneider. “One Month Out” is another one of “The Dukes of Hazzard” star’s efforts. It follows an aging man who runs off with his nurse.

Both of the films are currently in post-production. And the way John Schneider puts it, there are even more screenplays just waiting to be produced. Fans of recent work will be pleased to learn that the Bo Duke actor has no intentions of calling it quits any time soon.
