‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Star John Schneider Explained What It’s Like Being Recognized as Bo in 2021

by Quentin Blount

Once an actor becomes extremely famous thanks to playing a certain character, they will almost always be remembered that way. Just ask John Schneider from the Dukes of Hazzard.

John Schneider is a man of many talents. He’s a world-renowned actor, having starred in theater and other TV series in addition to Dukes. He’s also a country music singer. In fact, Schneider has been a singer since the early 1980s, and he has released 18 singles and even a greatest hits package.

That’s all in addition to his nine studio albums. Some songs you might recognize include “I’ve Been Around Enough to Know”, “Country Girls”, “What’s a Memory Like You”, and “You’re the Last Thing I Needed Tonight”. All of those songs reached the top of the Billboard country singles charts at one point or another.

But despite his success elsewhere, he will always be known as Beauregard “Bo” Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard. Schneider played the iconic role next to Tom Wopat, who played Luke Duke. The 61-year-old told Closer Weekly back in May that people today still recognize him as the character he played when he was just 18-years old.

“Oh yeah! It’s a wonderful compliment,” Schneider said. “A new generation of kids is now watching Dukes and loving it. It’s terrific. I just did a concert in North Carolina, and there were people from ages 6 to 80 in the crowd. They all love the show.”

‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Still Resonates With Fans to this Day

But why exactly does the show still resonate with people in 2021? After all, it has been more than 35 years since the last episode of Dukes of Hazzard aired on American televisions. Schneider says believes that he and the rest of the characters have become a part of people’s “extended family.”

“We became and remain a part of people’s extended family,” he explained. “For a lot of folks, it’s not just a television show. It’s the lessons they learned from it or the time they spent watching episodes with their grandparents who have now passed on. We’re people they spent time with during a very important time in their lives.”

There is most certainly no question about that. The Dukes of Hazzard is without a doubt one of the most memorable and iconic shows in television history. The show was loved by fans thanks to its break-neck chase scenes, huge jumps, and other daredevil stunts. Bo and Luke Duke, two cousins from rural Georgia, quite literally took the world by storm.

In the end, Schneider knows that he and the rest of the cast and crew from Dukes of Hazzard created something special. Something generational.

“It’s a special show,” he concluded. “And I’m honored to be a part of that.”
