Dwayne Johnson took to social media on Sunday night to thank everyone who took the time to wish him a happy birthday.

That’s right — Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is officially 49 years old. Johnson kicked off his birthday celebration by announcing that his NBC series Young Rock has been renewed for another season. He has amassed quite the following over his prestigious career as an actor, producer, and retired professional wrestler.

In total, Johnson’s films have grossed more than $3.5 billion in North American alone. Worldwide, they have made more than $10.5 billion. Those figures easily make Dwayne Johnson one of the world’s highest-grossing and highest-paid actors.

Fans of The Rock made sure to show the superstar a lot of love on his special day. And Johnson returned the favor in a late-night Instagram post.

“Mahalo everyone SO MUCH for the morning birthday love,” Dwayne Johnson wrote alongside his latest video. “I’m a 978-year-old T-Rex. So you hope with age we all get a little more wiser, mindful, balanced, inspired, motivated, and can tell a helluva dirty joke.”

In the video, Johnson is in the gym and just finishing up a workout. He lets his fans and followers know that today is his meal “cheat day” and that he will definitely be celebrating tonight by eating well.

“Today is my birthday AND my cheat day so it’s a double whammy hell yes jackpot. Tequila, pancakes & cookies await!!!” Johnson says excitedly. “Thanks again for the birthday love and enjoy your Sunday.”

Dwayne Johnson Announces ‘Young Rock’ is Getting Renewed

Dwayne Johnson is certainly no stranger to the bright lights. But he was excited to announce that his latest project, Young Rock, will be getting renewed for season two. NBC announced that the show was the number-two comedy of the season.

The show focuses on different aspects of Johnson’s life. It starts out during his childhood and his early years as a wrestler. We get glimpses of Johnson as a 10-year old, a 15-year-old, and as a college student attending the University of Miami. The Rock’s entire life, however, serves as the material for the 11-episode television series.

The show also focuses on Dwayne Johnson and the relationship he had with his father, pro wrestler Rocky Johnson. Flashbacks show the star actor admiring and watching his father win matches inside the ring. When the show was first announced, Johnson said that he wishes he could have shared the moment with his dad.

“I really wish my dad was around to see this one. Maaaaan he would’ve been proud,” Johnson wrote in a previous Instagram post. “And yes, I was clearly kicking puberty’s ass at 15 years old and becoming a tequila tycoon by the time I was 10.”
