Ellen DeGeneres says she has come down with COVID-19. The comedian and talk show host took to social media on Thursday to announce the news.
“Hi Everyone, I want to let you all know that I tested positive for Covid-19,” she tweeted.
At the moment, DeGeneres says she is not experiencing any symptoms. “Fortunately, I’m feeling fine right now,” she continued.
DeGeneres, 62, also added that “anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified, and I am following all proper CDC guidelines.”
Given the diagnosis, DeGeneres says the she plans to make her return after the holidays. “I’ll see you all again after the holidays. Please stay healthy and safe. Love, Ellen,” she writes in conclusion.
Ellen DeGeneres Fans React to Her Diagnosis
Only moments after sharing about her diagnosis, thousands of DeGeneres’ fans and followers offered well wishes.
“Please take care of yourself Ellen and please follow guidelines and thanks for informing about your health and please updating us about yourself!” one user writes.
Another user echoed a similar sentiment writing: “I do wish you a speedy recovery hopefully it doesn’t get worse.”
2020 has had its rough moments for DeGeneres. In addition to now contracting COVID-19, DeGeneres’ beloved talk show came under scrutiny by many former employees. Major allegations of sexual harassment and a toxic workplace environment surfaced, putting the show under the microscope of those at Warner Bros.
In fact, reports surfaced earlier this week that the show struggles to find sponsors. Also, A-list celebrities also reportedly now hesitate to join the talk show.
“For the first time, everyone was starting to ask us, ‘If you have an idea, tell us because we will listen. If you have an idea for a celeb, even if they’re not A-list or famous, we’ll take anyone who will bring us numbers and eyeballs,’” one staffer tells Page Six. “That’s when they started to be real with us and essentially said, ‘Give us anything because we need help.’ Our old strategy doesn’t work anymore.”
