Cancer is a disease that has claimed the lives of far too many people across the globe. Whether you are famous or not, chances are you know someone who has battled the disease. And, sadly, you probably know someone who lost their battle with cancer.

This is the case for iconic rock star Elton John. He lost a dear friend and colleague to the disease earlier this year. That friend, according to The Daily Mail, was Duncan Wallace. He and the “Goodbye Yellow Brick” road singer worked together on the star’s radio show, “The Rocket Hour.”

Wallace was a producer on Elton John’s radio show. He passed away from brain cancer at the young age of 39 in April 2021. He left behind his wife, Katie, and their two children. Their oldest, Finn, is only 7 years old. Their youngest child, Izzy, is only 5.

Working with Duncan Wallace was a joyful experience, according to Elton John. And, unsurprisingly, he misses his friend. “We had a blast working together. He’d turn me on to stuff and I’d turn him on to stuff. We were a great team and he is sorely missed,” the “Bennie and the Jets” singer shared.

The rock legend also said that Wallace will always hold an important place in his heart.

“I don’t want to forget Duncan, I don’t want him to be forgotten. We had the most wonderful relationship, he was part of my life,” Elton John also shared. “Every night in my prayers to God, I say: ‘Give him a hug from me, will you?'”

The “Tiny Dancer” singer also said that one reason he and Wallace got along so well was that they shared a common interest.

“Duncan loved music as much as I did, and I have to pay tribute to him. Although we traveled the world together for the show – everywhere from London to LA, Toronto, New York – it wasn’t until his funeral that I understood what fan of electronic dance he was,” Elton John also said.

Elton John Praised for How He Supported His Late Friend During Cancer Battle

Elton John didn’t just praise his late friend after his death. The rock star has also supported him and his family. And he has been praised for his efforts by Duncan Wallace’s widow, Katie. She has described the singer as “thoughtful and kind.”

The star and Katie have stayed in touch after Duncan’s untimely death. He also made a donation in support of a charity run Katie did in memory of her late husband.

“Throughout this horrible ordeal, Elton has been beyond thoughtful and kind, regularly calling to see how we’re coping. He’s such a lovely man,” Katie said. “We just hope his support along with all the other well-wishers will make a difference, and save lives.”

Cancer is something Elton John has experienced himself. He battled prostate cancer in 2017 and is now 74 years old. He is the father of two children. They are 10-year-old Zachary and 8-year-old Elijah.
