After the tragic suicide of her brother Benjamin at age 27 this past July, actress Riley Keough is struggling through her first holiday season without him.
The granddaughter of Elvis Presley got philosophical in a recent Instagram post on the subject. She said she’s been thinking about loss and the afterlife in the wake of Benjamin’s death.
Riley Keough Missing Benjamin This Christmas
“Its going to be my first Christmas without my best friend and baby brother,” Keough posted to Instagram on Friday. “Words can’t describe how painful it is. I’m thinking of everyone whose lost someone they love and everyone else whose first Holiday it is with grief and without the person they love. And I’m also thinking of all of the beautiful people who can’t be here with us in physical form and sending them my love wherever they may be, not too far away.”
Keough, 31, got a tattoo across her collarbone after her brother’s death with an inscription of his name, according to the Daily Mail.
Moreover, on the two month anniversary of Benjamin’s death, she posted on social media, “I would give anything for 1 more minute with you little brother.”
Keough has further called Benjamin her “twin soul” and said he was “too sensitive for this harsh world.”
Meanwhile, Keough’s mother, Lisa Marie Presley, was reportedly also very close to Benjamin. One Mother’s Day, the two of them got matching Celtic eternity knot tattoos, USA Today reported. And Presley’s manager, Roger Widynowski, told USA Today that “she adored that boy. He was the love of her life.”
According to the New York Post, Benjamin had struggled with drugs and alcohol addiction and had gone to rehab shortly before his death. He may also have been battling depression in his final months.
