Netflix’s Extraction 2 starring Chris Hemsworth has officially begun filming, and the movie’s director has shared a snowy behind the scenes video from Day 1 of the shoot.
The first Extraction film debuted on Netflix in April 2020, and the movie immediately became a fan favorite. With a $65 million budget, Hemsworth played a black-market mercenary for hire. His character, Tyler Rake, went on an action-packed mission that involved the shady underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers that sent him to Bangladesh.
The 2020 Netflix movie became the most-watched original film in Netflix’s history. So it’s no surprise the streaming service decided to create a sequel. Now, Extraction 2 is underway and filming, and director Sam Hargrave has revealed a sneak peek into the first day of production. Instead of the movie being based in Dhaka, Bangladesh similar to the first movie, Extraction 2 will take place in a much colder area of the world – the Czech Republic.
“Well, that’s a wrap on Day 1 here on Extraction 2 at the train location. We got a lot of snow today, but it looks great on camera. So we’ll take it,” Sam Hargrave says in the clip.
“Shoot Day 1 is in the books on Extraction 2! We have such an amazing cast and crew…Excited about this one!!! #extraction2 #makingmovies #netflix #chrishemsworth #rakelives,” the director wrote on Instagram.
‘Extraction 2’ Crew Had to Adjust Filming Location
As mentioned, Extraction 2 has traded in the warm weather of Bangladesh for the wintery weather of the Czech Republic. Originally, the cast and crew were scheduled to film the sequel in Australia. Considering Chris Hemsworth is Australian, we’re sure he would’ve appreciated shooting in his home country for once.
In fact, the crew of the new movie began preparations in New South Wales in late August assuming the film would still be shot Down Under. Yet it wasn’t meant to be unfortunately. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, production decided to move to the capital of the Czech Republic in Prague.
Director Sam Hargrave’s post on Monday didn’t exactly give away any plot lines. But it did look like Hemsworth’s character will have to brave snowy weather while chasing down bad guys. While they may not be the most comfortable of conditions to shoot in, Hargrave seemed pleased with the way things looked on film. The team is looking to wrap up the movie by March 2022, and Extraction 2 will hit Netflix later that year.
The end of the first movie left Tyler Rake’s return under uncertain terms. However, in late September, the Extraction 2 trailer confirmed that Hemsworth would reprise the popular role. Fans will surely look forward to the completion of filming and will eagerly await the sequel’s arrival on Netflix next year.
