In a music battle for the ages, musician Dave Grohl stands in one corner. In the other corner – a 10-year-old girl. The Foo Fighters’ drummer accepted a challenge from 10-year-old music prodigy Nandi Bushell.
Bushell, an England native, posted a video to Twitter of her rocking out in pigtails to Grohl’s song “Everlong.” In the video, Bushell also sang along to the music as she performed a flawless cover. In the tweet, she invited Grohl to a virtual drum battle.
Dave Grohl responded with a challenge of his own.
As a result, Grohl posted his reply to Twitter after learning of Bushell’s challenge. Grohl performed part of the song before confessing that he hasn’t played it since he recorded it in 1997.
“Nandi, in the last week, I’ve gotten at least 100 texts from people all over the world saying, ‘This girl is challenging you to a drum-off, what are you going to do?'” Grohl said. “I’ve seen all your videos, I’ve seen you on TV. You’re an incredible drummer. I’m really flattered that you’ve picked some of my songs to do for your videos, and you’ve done them all perfectly.”
Bushell has become a minor celebrity in her own right thanks to her drum skills, according to USA TODAY. She has 114,000 followers on Twitter and appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last year to discuss her love for drums and music. On the show, she played another one of Grohl’s hits “In Bloom” by Nirvana.
Grohl had a challenge of his own for the drummer. He invited her to play another one of his songs “Dead End Friends” by Them Crooked Vultures. He demonstrated the song on drums before giving it back to Bushell to make the next move.
Grohl’s response made Bushell so happy that she couldn’t help dancing and jumping up and down. In response, she promised to “checkmate” the song too.
