‘Friday Night Lights’ Star Kyle Chandler Actually Lives on a Ranch in Texas With His Family

For over 30 years, Kyle Chandler has been entertaining his fans on various TV shows and films. While he’s had parts in several different roles throughout his career, fans know him best as Coach Eric Taylor from the award-winning show, “Friday Night Lights.” But who exactly is Chandler when he’s not on the field with his on-screen team?

According to the beloved actor, he lives life reasonably similar to his character from “Friday Night Lights.” Although he doesn’t coach a high school football team and isn’t married to Tami Taylor (played by Connie Britton), he does, like his character, call the Lone Star State home.

Since 1995, he’s been married to Kathryn Chandler. The two live at their 33-acre ranch outside of Austin, Texas, with their two daughters, Sawyer and Sydney. During an interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the proud girl-dad confessed that he frequently shares his character’s wisdom with his daughters when they need some fatherly advice.

“When we were shooting that show…I heard more than a few times ‘Dad, just stop. I saw the episode,'” Chandler said.

Kyle Chandler’s Love For the Lone Star State

Chandler and his family have lived in Texas since 2007. When he’s not shooting Emmy-winning TV shows, he likes to be home with his full house, complete with several miniature donkeys and dogs.

“Every time I come home, we have another dog,” Chandler said in an interview with Men’s Journal. “It’s cool. You build a fire on the property and just sit out there, and the dogs stay with you. It’s a good feeling.”

Born in Buffalo, New York, Chandler grew up in Illinois and moved to a rural farm in Georgia at 11. Tragedy struck him at a young age when he lost his father at 14. According to Chandler, losing his father made him want a family of his own.

“I always wanted a family of my own since the time my pop died,” Chandler said.

Today, the Univesity of Georgia alum prides himself on being an active member of his lone star community. While in between shooting “Friday Night Lights” and “Bloodline,” he served his community by working as a local firefighter.

Chandler first entered the Hollywood scene when he booked a part on the ABC drama “Homefront.” He later made a name for himself when he became the star of the CBS show, “Early Edition.”

After, he had guest appearances on the hit show “Grey’s Anatomy” as Dylan Young. In addition to his work on TV, he’s also starred in several box office hits, including Mulholland FallsKing Kong, Argo, The Spectacular Now, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Zero Dark Thirty, Super 8, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Manchester By the Sea, Carol, Game Night and The Wolf of Wall Street.
