Gene Simmons and Kiss want to end 2020 and restart their”End of the Road” tour with an exclamation point. In a year like 2020, can you blame them?
On Tuesday, Simmons, the rock group’s lead singer, shared a photo of what he’s describing as the “largest stage ever” on Twitter.
Gene Simmons Still Needs to Provide Some Stage Details
Firstly, we don’t have any more details as to what makes this stage the grandest ever built.
There is a Guinness world record for biggest stage. (Of course, there is.) That was the one built for the Villa Mix Festival in 2017 in Brazil. It measured 31,215.34 square feet and was 227 feet high.
We do know Simmons and the official Kiss Twitter account are hyping a New Year’s Eve concert. Earlier in the day, official Kiss Twitter posted “We’ve always done it big, and to #KISS2020Goodbye we’re doing it EVEN BIGGER! Let’s keep making #KISSTORY!”
Kiss is scheduled for the concert, Dec. 31, from the Royal Beach at the Atlantis-Dubai. The Atlantis features two world-class resorts. The photo Simmons posted appears to be of a stage being built in front of The Palm.
Original Tour Came To A Halt In Lubbock
The group kicked off its “End of the Road” concert tour in 2019 with a seemingly never-ending string of dates. They’d played in dozens of shows until they were grounded in Lubbock, Texas. That happened on March 10, following a concert at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Thousands packed the Lubbock Arena, which is the home of the Texas Tech men’s and women’s basketball teams. Fans painted their faces like Kiss and sang with the group. David Lee Roth was a special surprise guest.
Then Covid-19 shut down most of the world in mid-March.
But Kiss expects a crowd this New Year’s Eve. The group says everyone attending will be tested for Covid-19.
In previous video statements, the group promises fans “the biggest and baddest concert event and pyrotechnics show of the year.” After all, it wouldn’t be a Kiss show without all the iconic “fire and brimstone” atmosphere.
The event will also be streamed.
It’ll allow those in the United States to get the party started really early. So, expect some day drinking. The event is set for 9 p.m. in Dubai, but that’s noon E.T.
“After nine months of this pandemic darkness, the world may finally be seeing light of day,” the band said in a news release. “On New Year’s Eve, Kiss will rock the heavens, shake the earth and blaze the way out of 2020 with the largest and most bombastic celebration in our and anyone else’s history. We all need it. We all deserve it. Here’s to 2021.”
The statement said the show will be filmed with more than 50 cameras offering a panoramic view for fans watching from home.
