It pays off to have a friend like George Clooney.

Even though George Clooney has settled down, he’s obviously still having fun. During an interview with GQ, he tells a story involving millions of dollars and 14 friends.

George Clooney as a Family Man

Clooney, previously known as “Sexiest Man of the Year”, now prefers to stay off the big screen and stay at home with his wife and international human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney, and their child.

However, before becoming a full-blown family man, he was able to perform one more extremely kind and generous act when he stopped at an undisclosed warehouse to pick up $14 million for 14 friends, each receiving $1 million.

He shared the story with GQ, as the magazine crowns Clooney as “Icon of the Year”. It’s the first time Clooney’s is confirming the story and even going into details, since his friend Rande Gerber, one of the lucky now-millionaires, shared it in 2017 on MSNBC.

And Clooney as a friend

The money came from the film “Gravity”, co-starring Sandra Bullock. Previous to its release in 2013, no one was thinking the film will be a hit. Doubters were, in fact, wrong.

Instead, Clooney made several million dollars. At the time, the bachelor thought, ‘who better to give it to than friends?'”

“And I thought, you know, without them I don’t have any of this,” he said of his friends. “And we’re all really close. I just thought, basically, if I get hit by a bus, they’re all in the will. So why the f**k am I waiting to get hit by a bus?”

As the story goes, Clooney drove to a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles in an old van where ‘giant piles of cash’ were held. He filled his luggage with $14 million and then contacted his friends, telling them to meet him at his home.

“And I just held up a map and pointed to all the places I got to go in the world, and all the things I’ve gotten to see because of them,” he told GQ. “And I said, ‘How do you repay people like that?’ I said, ‘Oh, well: How about a million bucks?'”

What a good friend to have!
