Golden Globe winner and longtime actor George Clooney is certainly no stranger to high-dollar projects. Clooney’s projects bring in millions beyond what many commoners can’t imagine. Considering this, Clooney’s status and talent allow him to be particular about what he takes on. The high-demand actor and entrepreneur explained in an interview recently why he turned down $35 million a one-day job.
A Controversial Job Costs More Than Money
When asked by The Guardian in a recent interview if the multi-threat businessman ever feels like he has plenty of money, Clooney shares the story of his turned down $35M job. Clooney says, “I was offered $35m for one day’s work for an airline commercial, but I talked to Amal [Clooney, human rights lawyer and George’s wife] about it and we decided it’s not worth it. It was [associated with] a country that, although it’s an ally, is questionable at times, and so I thought: ‘Well, if it takes a minute’s sleep away from me, it’s not worth it.”
And it’s not like the Kentucky-born star is hurting for cash. I mean, George Clooney sold Casamigos, the tequila company he co-founded for over $1 billion dollars four years ago. On top of that, Clooney has earned over $30 million dollars advertising Nespresso, a gig he’s held on to for 20 years. Finally, it’s impossible to gloss over Clooney’s wildly successful acting, directing, and producing accolades. According to Clooney’s IMDb page, he is credited with over 80 acting credits, over 40 credits as a producer, and 11 as a director. Clooney has also earned a few writing and soundtrack credits, so it’s safe to say that success is no stranger to Clooney. Financially or otherwise.
A Refreshing Family Man
George Clooney is much more than just a successful career. Clooney is also a father to twins, and he seems extremely proud of that. Despite being able to afford however many round-the-clock nannies his kids could possibly need, Clooney insists that this is not the case. Clooney tells The Guardian, “…it’s so important to Amal [to be involved]. We have a nanny four days a week and the rest of the time it’s just us. And during lockdown it was just us – for a full year! I felt like my mother in 1964, doing dishes and six loads of laundry a day.”
Clooney’s ‘Tender’ New Project
As a father, there’s certainly a personal connection between Clooney and his newest directing project, The Tender Bar. Starring Ben Affleck, the film tells a coming-of-age story of a young boy looking for a replacement for his father who is no longer around. Like many “based off of a true story” films, the project will touch the hearts of many.
However, it’s not usually the case that Clooney takes on a film of this nature. In the past, Clooney’s directing projects typically lean towards historical or political dramas. But according to Clooney, it was time for something a bit different. Clooney tells The Guardian, “The whole country, for the last five years, has been engaged in hate and anger, and I’ve been part of it at times. I’ve been angry, and this was such a kind story. It’s such a gentle film, and I wanted to be part of that, and I thought maybe an audience would want to be part of a gentle experience.”
The film is set for release on December 17th, 2021.
