Supporting those who serve is something George Strait has done throughout his career. On Friday (June 11), the King of Country released a very special EP. It’s a compilation that is dedicated to a group of those public servants.
Titled, “The Weight of the Badge,” the five-song collection was issued in honor of the brave men and women who work in law enforcement.
The singer’s team announced the EP via Instagram on Friday. The post also included an image of George Strait with his song, “The Weight of the Badge,” playing in the background.
“It’s gonna be a long one, another grave yard shift / As he says goodbye to his wife and kids / He spends his life just like his dad’s / Driving away under the weight of the badge,” Strait sings.
According to his website, “The Weight of the Badge” appeared on Strait’s 2019 album, “Honky Tonk Time Machine.” Impressively, this was the 30th studio album of Strait’s incredible career.
“The Weight of the Badge” is just one of the five songs on the King of Country’s new compilation. It’s a song that really captures the life of a law enforcement officer. He sings about their sacrifices, the danger they are in, and the toll their job can take on their families.
“For those of you who carry the weight of the badge, George Strait put together a compilation of songs to celebrate and honor all of your hard work and sacrifice,” the caption that accompanied the video said.

In addition to “The Weight of the Badge,” four other songs are also available on the new compilation released by George Strait.
These songs are “The Fireman,” “Cowboys Like Us,” “So Much Like My Dad,” and “I Saw God Today.”
“The Fireman” was included on Strait’s album, “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind.” It was his fourth studio album and it went platinum. Furthermore, this album was an award-winner for the singer. It claimed Album of the Year honors at the ACM Awards and the CMA Awards.
“Cowboys Like Us” was released as part of his album, “Honkytonkville.” This album, unsurprisingly, also went platinum.
Additionally, the King of Country’s song “So Much Like My Dad” was part of his “Holding My Own” album, which was his 12th. This song also reached the top five on the country charts.
Also, “I Saw God Today” was released on Strait’s “Troubadour” album. Interestingly, “I Saw God Today” was ranked the highest of any other song of his when it was released. The song was another hit track. It also became the Strait’s 43rd No. 1 song on the Billboard charts.
