Even over a year later, George Strait and his grandson Harvey make for an adorable pair. The country music legend invited his grandson on stage to sing “God And Country Music.” The two performed for 80,000 fans at the NRG Stadium as part of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo in March 2019.
Strait wore his signature cowboy hat as he combined country twang with the calming presence that turned him into a star. Like the studio version of the song, Harvey lent his vocals to the end of the song. His grandfather nodded and beamed proudly. The crowd cheered as the song finished and Harvey waved to them before exiting the stage.
Comments online praised the duo’s performance. One user praised Strait’s long and industrious career. The country singer signed his first solo contract with MCA Records back in 1981. “In today’s country George is the only Artist that deserves to wear a cowboy hat,” they wrote. Another wrote, “You are a living country legend. King George will be missed when he no longer puts out music.”
Some users believe Strait is grooming a worthy successor in his grandson. Harvey is 8-years-old and the son of Strait’s second child Bubba. Bubba has also worked with his father, co-writing several of the songs on Strait’s album Twang. Regarding Strait’s grandson, one user wrote: “George Jones asked, ‘Who’s gonna fill their shoes?’ George Strait, just provided us the answer.”
