‘Gilligan’s Island’: What is Ginger Actor Tina Louise’s Net Worth?

by Quentin Blount

Gilligan’s Island was one of — if not the most — popular shows on television in the 1960s. It contributed to the popularity of actress Tina Louise as well.

Classic television fans no doubt remember Tina Louise for her role on Gilligan’s Island. Louise played the movie star Ginger Grant in the CBS television comedy. At 87-years-old, Louise is the only living cast member remaining of the Gilligan’s Island original crew of seven.

It’s no surprise that with all of the wild success Gilligan’s Island enjoyed back in the 1960s, that the show is still popular today. Generations have grown up enjoying the hilarious shenanigans of the castaway crew. So it’s safe to wonder just how much some of the Gilligan’s Island stars are worth today.

As for Tina Louise, that number comes out to a whopping $6 million, per CelebrityNetWorth. She was, after all, one of the most prominent female actors of her time. However, her success spans much farther than just Gilligan’s Island. Louise is also a successful, author, singer, and dancer.

Early Life of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ Star

Tina Louise was actually born as Tina Blacker in New York City. We all know that she portrayed a movie star on Gilligan’s Island, but in many ways, she was a movie star ever since she was born. Louise enjoyed a life of stardom, earning her first acting role at just two years old. She appeared in an advertisement for her father’s candy store.

Louise would go on to study, act, sing, and dance, all by the age of 17. Her first professional acting gig came in 1952. Shortly after that, she started acting on-stage in Broadway productions and made several TV appearances.

Meanwhile, in what comes as a surprise to basically nobody, Louise was recognized by the National Art Council in 1958 as the “World’s Most Beautiful Redhead.” That distinction, along with her movie star persona, led to her being widely viewed as one of the world’s top sex symbols of the 1960s.

It was in 1964 that Louise took on the role of Ginger Grant in Gilligan’s Island. The show aired for three seasons on CBS until April of 1967. It spanned for three seasons, and a total of 98 episodes. While seasons two and three were filmed in color, season one of the popular show was actually filmed in black in white, before eventually being colorized for syndication.

Over time, however, Tina Louise became unhappy with her role on the show. Despite the success of Gilligan’s Island as a whole, Louise worried that her time playing as Ginger Grant actually hurt her personally. She thought the role would typecast her as the “glamour girl” — and perhaps she had a point. When the show ended in 1967, the star actress had a hard time finding any sort of major film work.
