Michael Strahan Takes Journey on GMA
This post comes after 5 years of Strahan and Roberts working together on GMA. Michael Strahan shares with Hello Magazine that Roberts helped him with his transition from pro-athlete to television personality.
“To be honest with you, I was such a fish out of water that Robin saved me in a lot of ways,” he begins. “She made me feel so comfortable, even before I joined GMA. That moment was years before they even considered me joining. She just put me at ease.”
The two friends have more in common than just GMA. Robin Roberts has an athletic career of her own, being inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. She played both tennis and basketball at the same time as pursuing her communications degree at Southeastern Louisiana University. Strahan is known for playing 15 seasons with NFL’s New York Giants, helping his team win Super Bowl XLII in 2007. According to CBS, Strahan holds the official record for the most quarterback sacks in a single season.
Strahan and Roberts’ similar backgrounds add to their deeper connection. It is a big reason why Strahan made the leap into television.
“Now, every morning when I sit next to her, I sit next to the person that puts me at ease in a job that we have to do. I’m lucky to sit next to her every morning,” he says.
Now with 5 years of experience under his belt, in addition to his previous work on Fox NFL Sunday and Live! With Kelly and Michael, there is nothing the host can’t do. Luckily, he gets to share his on-screen time with friends.
