Someone might need to rewrite that Dolly Parton hit because Gold Rush star Parker Schnabel’s crew works a little longer than just 9 to 5.
There’s so much that the Gold Rush crews have to do during the mining season. And according to Schnabel, an eight-hour day just isn’t long enough to get the results they need. So, his employees leave their trailers and head to operation at the crack of dawn and don’t leave until after the sun has set.
“We usually work 7-7, but late in the year it’s way too dark at 7 in the morning to start working, so we change it to, like, 8 to 7,” Schnabel explained to Starcasm.
While this might sound like a grueling workday, we have to remember that the Gold Rush crews only have access to the mine sights for seven months out of the year. From March to October, the employees pour every ounce of energy they have into their work. Once November hits, though, the ground gets too cold and their water sources begin to freeze. So, the teams have a five-month break to nurse any aching muscles and catch up on their sleep.

Thankfully, under Schnabel’s direction, the Gold Rush crew members don’t have much need for a second job during those winter months. Schnabel himself has a net worth of $8 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. He’s also mined $13 million dollars worth of gold by age 24. Needless to say, most of his crew members try not to lift a finger from November to February.
Schnabel, himself, doesn’t often pick up any extra work during those months, either, unless his father needs a hand with his business.
“I don’t really work too much in the off season,” the Gold Rush star shared with Starcasm.“Sometimes I help m [sic] dad out here and there, but I like to travel and get a good break.”
At the time of the interview, Schnabel spent his time off with his then-girlfriend, Ashley. The two decided to take a vacation Down Under and spend some time working on his tan lines. The warm weather was likely a welcome change from the frigid conditions he endured during the working season.
“I just got back from Australia,” the Gold Rush mine boss said. “I spent a month over there — just about a month over there — with Ashley, and Christmas with her family. Went on a road trip, chilled out, drank Coronas on the beach. I’m a pretty whote [sic] boy, so I tried to get a tan, which didn’t really work to [sic] well. But I tried.”
