Rick Ness is known as the “Comeback Kid” by some “Gold Rush” fans and even his fellow gold miners. But just how did he get this nickname?

Ness talked about it in an August 2021 interview with Hollywood Soapbox as he was also discussing the latest spin-off, “Gold Rush: Winter’s Fortune.”

“I don’t mind that at all, honestly,” the “Gold Rush” star said when asked about that nickname. Ness also said, “I would rather be that than the loser, I guess. I did have a bad season where it was damn close, where it could have gone either way.”

‘Gold Rush’ Miner Admits That He ‘Almost Lost Everything’

Ness said during that bad season, he “almost lost everything, and if I had, then I wouldn’t have the chance to be the comeback kid. So I just eeked it out and kind of broke even and had an opportunity to come back, and I feel like I came back in a big way.”

He said during the interview that he has no plans of finding himself on “Gold Rush” back in that position.

“I want to stay a winner here,” Ness said. “… I think I do my best work when my back is against the wall, when I am left with no options, and I got nothing in me, except to start throwing punches and fight my way out of something.”

Ness added that he was proud of that title “because it takes a lot.”

“You’ve got to dig pretty deep to get out of some of these places that I’ve gotten myself into, and I have with the help of my crew and my girlfriend and everything,” the “Gold Rush” star said. “So, yeah, I don’t mind that title at all. They can use it as long as they want, I guess.”

Parker Schnabel Shared Wisdom He’s Learned During His Mining Career

While Ness is the “Comeback Kid,” Parker Schnabel can identify with one of those words – kid. He did start his mining career while he was a teenager so it would make sense that other, veteran miners might wonder what this “kid” is doing.

It’s pretty safe to say, Outsiders, that Schnabel has earned his place among other “Gold Rush” miners. One thing that he’s been able to do is to find a deeper meaning around being a miner.

Schnabel was asked in an interview with The Malestrom what he’s learned from being in the business.

“Gold mining like most things in life, you get out of it what you put in,” Schnabel said. “And if you put in a lot of hard work and dedication, you usually get rewarded.”

Isn’t that a solid metaphor for life? Try and take his words to heart.
