‘Gold Rush’: Tony Beets Opens Up on Raising His Kids in Front of the Camera

In a past interview, Gold Rush star Tony Beets and his wife, Minnie, spoke about raising their children in front of the camera on the hit Discovery Channel series.

Back in 2019, the famous gold mining couple had a joint interview with Monsters & Critics. Tony and Minnie shared details about their work before and after starring on Gold Rush. They also opened up about involving their kids in the family business, and touched on raising them on-screen of the popular show.

Tony and Minnie Beets are originally from the Netherlands. In fact, the couple first met when they were only seven and six years old. The pair lived in the same neighborhood, and have now known each other for almost 60 years. As the pair grew up and eventually became close, their relationship blossomed and they chose to move to Canada together to chase the riches of the Yukon.

After years of working as a gold miner, Tony started his own business. It’s been lucrative for Beets and his family. However, no one could’ve expected the success and accompanying fame that followed the creation of Gold Rush in 2010. The outlet went on to ask Tony and Minnie about their kids basically growing up on the reality TV series. The couple agreed that not much has changed since their children have always worked with them.

“Actually… the kids have always worked with us and that hasn’t changed. I mean it’s the business but as far as…” Minnie said before Tony chimed in.

“…And basically they’re like how Minnie says, they’ve always worked with us. And as long as they keep playing well…” the Gold Rush star added.

Yet one thing that did change was their anonymity. Fans frequently recognize the famous couple when they’re out or traveling, but they each agreed that their interactions with fans are overwhelmingly positive.

“Yes…you know that comes with it. And that way you get to meet a lot of nice people. Really,” Tony Beets explained.

Tony Beets Talks About His Life Before Starring On ‘Gold Rush’

As mentioned before, Tony Beets and his wife hail from Holland, but the Yukon drew them west decades ago. While speaking to Entrepreneur, he opened up about life before moving to Canada and eventually starring on Gold Rush.

“I came from the Netherlands, of course. I hung around Alberta and [British Columbia] for a bit. Then I went to the Yukon for the money,” Beets shared about moving to Canada.

Upon arriving in Canada, Beets found out he could earn one thousand dollars a week mining gold. He realized that goal and didn’t stop there.

“So I thought, ‘If they get that, I’ll get a little more.’ And that’s what happened,” the Gold Rush star said.

Yet it’s a combination of things that keeps Tony Beets drawn to gold mining.

“You do whatever you want; yell at people whenever you feel like it. And then there’s the hunt, the treasure. I like it,” Beets added.
