Golden Globes 2021: All the Details on Nicole Kidman’s Stunning Dress That Took 425 Hours to Embroider

Nicole Kidman was taking our breath away again with her Golden Globes gown, from the fashion house of Louis Vuitton. Kidman attended the Globes virtually from her home in Sydney, Australia.

The actress who “hasn’t done this in a while,” shared a stunning photo of herself in the gown made in the Paris atelier. Kidman poses on a white couch in the chic, floor-length black gown. Beads, which took a total of 425 hours to embroider, make a sequined chainlink pattern on both the front and back of the dress.

“Celebrating #TheUndoing at the #GoldenGlobes tonight! ✨ ,” Nicole Kidman captions her social media post. “Thank you @LouisVuitton & @NicolasGhesquiere for bringing a little glamour back in my life. Haven’t done this in a long time 💛”

The apron-style gown required 25 hours to sketch, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Additionally, the publication reports that there are approximately 8,000 beads and crystals. Those exquisite embellishments include golden glass beads, three sizes of crystals, and two sizes of silver glass beads.

Furthermore, the black halter-neck gown was custom-made by Nicolas Ghesquière, women’s artistic director of the Louis Vuitton.

Choosing the Look

Fashion stylist and InStyle fashion director Julia von Boehm tells The Hollywood Reporter how she selected the gown for Kidman.

“I always like to mix in a little of Nicole’s own jewelry, as that feels more real during these times,” said von Boehm. Nicole Kidman did wear her personal jewelry for the award show. Her look included “Cathy Waterman sword drop earrings crafted of 22-karat recycled gold and ethically sourced diamonds (which the brand confirmed Kidman purchased personally).” Additionally, Kidman completed her look with a wavy, updo hairstyle, complete with a black ribbon tied like a headband.

von Boehm continues to comment on the state of the Golden Globes this year, and why she believes it’s still important to cherish the night. “I also think that people want to see a little bit of glam, somewhere at least! I think it’s nice that everybody is getting dressed up at this point, even though they are at home.”

“It’s about finding the fine line between what looks gorgeous and makes people dream, but is also appropriate,” von Boehm states.
