Gwen Stefani is knocking the ball out of the park when it comes to 2020. The icing on the cake is the “monumental moment” of experiencing her first win on The Voice.

An exciting, yet unexpected moment took place when 15-year-old Carter Rubin, of team Gwen Stefani, won the finale of the 19th season of The Voice last night.

Gwen Stefani is the Season 19 Winning Coach of ‘The Voice’

Gwen Stefani could hardly speak during an interview with Access Hollywood following Rubin becoming this year’s winner of The Voice. Carter and his coach sat beside each other while being asked questions over the amazing win.

“It’s amazing. My first win ever,” says Gwen. “The thing about winning is that you don’t really care until you actually win, and then all of a sudden it really means a lot.”

Stefani continues to explain how hard it is to take the moment in.

The interview took place immediately following the show’s end and the announcement of the winner. The two continued to be all smiles but filled with the shock of winning.

“I don’t think either one of us can really digest this yet,” explains Stefani. “It’s shocking.”

Gwen Brags on Winner Carter Rubin

She then begins bragging on the winner, Carter Rubin.

“I’m really excited for Carter because he’s the first male at 15 to win the voice, and this is my first win,” says Stefani. “We’re in a global pandemic so this is a pretty monumental moment.”

“I think what has amazed me the most is I have a child who’s around his [Carter’s] age,” she mentions.

“The way he can compose himself enough to make a vocal performance that is so in control, so emotional, and so in the moment amazes me as an artist myself,” she gushes of Rubin.

“I could never do that on TV,” admits Gwen. “To watch him do this at that age, with all the pressures people don’t even realize at home what these people are going through, it’s incredible and so inspiring.”

Gwen Stefani Says She’s Surprised Carter Chose Her

Stefani claims Carter choosing her instead of John Legend almost made her feel bad for young Rubin.

“The fact he chose me over John Legend. I was like ‘why?’ ‘What are you doing?’ I almost felt bad for him for a second because everybody always wants to work with John Legend,” she says.

When asked what the most shocking part of this year’s The Voice was, Stefani says it’s when she hit her button. Upon her chair turning around, once she saw Carter Rubin, she couldn’t believe the 15-year-old body representing the large voice she heard during the blind auditions.

“That for me was the biggest shock ever,” expresses Stefani. “I’m so grateful I pressed my button.”

“It’s magic. The show is magic. To be a coach is magic. The perfect person for me to coach is right here, but I couldn’t imagine he was as absolutely brilliant as he is,” Gwen says of Carter.

Stefani is strongly encouraging Carter to begin writing songs.

“I think he’ll understand that’s the most fulfilling thing to do as a vocalist is to write your own songs, be able to connect with your own heart, and share that with people. There’s no other feeling,” Gwen says.

“I keep telling him that over and over, and I’ve told his mom to get a piano, guitar, or even accordion,” she adds while laughing.

Both Gwen Stefani and Carter Rubin Are Speechless

As Carter sat with his coach during the interview, he expressed how he couldn’t put everything into words. He does explain how “it’s the best feeling in the world.”

To which Gwen responded, “Of course not, you just won!”

“I’d be crying, but I’m still in shock. I’m still trying to take it all in,” says Carter. “It’s really because of her. She’s been such a phenomenal coach by helping me believe in myself and encouraging me always.

“She’s all about helping her artists tap into their identity of who they want to be as a performer and as an artist,” he adds. “She’s definitely done that for me. She’s given such great advice I’ve taken to heart which has helped me from the blind auditions to now, and she’s Gwen Stefani! I love her. I really love her. She’s the best.”
