Happy 59th birthday Emilio Estevez!
Actor, director, writer and producer, Emilio Estevez broke into the Hollywood scene as a member of the Brat Pack in the 1980s. Along with the rest of the pack he starred in movies including “The Breakfast Club,” “St. Elmo’s Fire,” and “The Outsiders.” Although his career started in the eighties, as the son of actor Martin Sheen, Estevez was well acquainted with show business from a young age. Today, he’s celebrating his 59th birthday. So, to honor his big day, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite Emilio Estevez career moments.
When He Played Two-Bit Matthews in ‘The Outsiders’
We can’t pass up an opportunity to talk about a movie with our own name! However, the movie’s themes are a little different than our own. “The Outsiders” follows the rivalry between two gangs, the poor Greasers and the rich Socs. The rivalry reaches an all-time high when one gang member kills a member of the other. During the movie, Estevez plays Two-Bit Matthews, a wise-cracking member of the gang who’s known for stealing. This was Estevez’s introduction to the 80s Brat Pack.
When He Played a Jock in ‘The Breakfast Club’
Emilio Estevez played Andrew Clark, the stereotypical high school jock in “The Breakfast Club.” But halfway through the movie, we learned that maybe Andrew wasn’t so stereotypical. During a pivotal scene in the movie, Andrew opened up about why he landed in detention. He shared that he deeply regretted the bullying he inflicted on a classmate. And he talked about the pressures his father placed on him as an athlete.
When Emilio Estevez Led the Mighty Ducks to Victory
Who can forget Coach Gordon Bombay and “The Mighty Ducks.” During the movie, Estevez played an attorney who got a DUI. He was sentenced to 500 hours of community service. So, he accepted an offer to coach a kids hockey team. During a recent interview with Kelly Clarkson, Estevez admitted that he pretended to know how to play hockey during his audition for the film.
When He Starred in the ‘Young Guns’ Reboot
Okay, so this one is more of a wishful thinking one. But, Emilio Estevez did hint that there may be a “Young Guns” reboot in the making. During an interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Estevez revealed that fans may see him reprise his role as Billy the Kid one last time. Clarkson asked him, “Is it true ‘Young Guns 3’ is coming out?” Instead of saying yes or no, Estevez pulled a bandana above his nose and threw on a cowboy hat. Clarkson excitedly screamed, “It needs to happen!” IMDB even has a page set for the film, so, it seems like it may really be happening in 2022. For now, we’ll just have to appreciate Estevez in “Young Guns” and “Young Guns 2.”
