His first job in entertainment was working as an assistant stage manager at a theater. Afterwards, he started to hone his acting craft on British television. It was his work on the film “Zulu” that propelled his career forward. The film was released in 1964.
It was his starring role in “Alfie” during 1966 that really made Michael Caine a star. Plus, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his work in the film. According to The Guardian, as “Alfie” Caine played “a serial womaniser” who “eventually begins to see the error of his ways.” The film was a critical hit and was the 1966 winner of the Special Jury Prize at Cannes.
