Following his success on TV, he turned to producing films. He produced One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1975. That has become one of the most beloved films in American movie history. With Jack Nicholson starring and a great novel to base it on, the movie won Douglas an Academy Award for Best Picture as well as his first Oscar.

Of course, he didn’t stop there and went on to produce a number of movies afterward while also appearing in them as well. One of his most famous roles has to be when he played Gordon Gekko in Wall Street. The 1987 movie would be widely successful. Michael Douglas won the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance.

Over the years, he has been one of the most respected actors in Hollywood. With a career and resume like his, not to mention pedigree such as his, it is no wonder. His father and mother had hugely successful careers in acting.

Michael Douglas and his Famous Family

Now, it is no secret that Michael Douglas has famous parents. Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill were both very successful during their careers. Not only that, they lived incredibly long lives as well. While Michael has done plenty in his time as an actor, his father Kirk was a pioneer of the modern film industry.

Kirk Douglas grew up in New York, born in 1916. It wouldn’t be until he was 30 years old when he made his debut in film. His looks, complete with a dimpled chin, as well as his acting chops made him a quick star. He soon found himself being one of the most prolific actors of the 1950s. He appeared in anything that involved drama. From the Wild West to the fields of battle in Europe. His wife Anne Douglas lived to the age of 102 and passed earlier this year.

Kirk would finish his last project in 2009, a one-man show called Before I Forget at the age of 92. He passed away last year at the age of 103. His first wife and the mother of Michael Douglas, Diana, also had quite a career and long life. After beginning her career in 1942, the Bermuda-born actress would go on to appear in over 50 films. She passed away in 2015 at the age of 92.
