Priscilla Presley, who is an actress, entrepreneur, and, yes, former wife of Elvis Presley, celebrates her 76th birthday on Monday.
Presley was born on May 24, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York. Her life and career have taken a number of twists and turns, so we’ll look at some of those moments right now.
Priscilla Presley Marries Elvis Presley After Long Courtship
Anyone who reads about Priscilla Presley will know that her first claim to fame is her marriage to Presley, which was between 1967 and 1973.
The couple had one child, Lisa Marie. Elvis first met Priscilla in 1959 when she lived in Germany with her family and he was stationed there in the U.S. Army. He was 24; she was 14. But they managed to stay in touch, eventually leading to their marriage.
They were married on May 1, 1967, at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.
This video shows highlights from their wedding day as well as some home movies, too. Obviously, life with Elvis wasn’t always easy for Priscilla Presley, but she did stay married to “The King” for six years.
Presley Takes On Role As Jenna Wade On The CBS Drama ‘Dallas’
By 1980, Priscilla Presley turned her attention toward an acting career. Her first job was as a host of “Those Amazing Animals.”
But her first true acting role came in 1983 on the Lee Majors show “The Fall Guy” on ABC. She played in a second-season episode called “Manhunter.” After that, she appeared in a TV movie called “Love is Forever” with Michael Landon. Presley then was offered the role of Jenna Wade on CBS’s hit drama “Dallas.”
Now she was the third actress to play Wade. Priscilla Presley, though, stuck with the role for five seasons before leaving in 1988.
Here’s a clip of her as Jenna from those “Dallas” days. Presley appears with Patrick Duffy, who played Bobby Ewing on the show.
‘The Naked Gun’ Movies Show Humorous Side To Presley As An Actor
Many people, though, were introduced to a whole other side of Presley through “The Naked Gun” movies. In them, she played Jane Spencer opposite Leslie Nielsen’s bumbling Lt. Frank Drebin.
The first movie, “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!”, hit the screens in 1988. Two other movies in the series in 1991 and 1994 featured Presley, again, as Spencer. “The Naked Gun” movies were a spinoff from the TV show “Police Squad!” created by David Zucker, Jerry Zucker, and Jim Abrahams.
Its humor was filled with sight gags and one-off lines. Some considered the show ahead of the TV times.
Anyway, let’s sit back and watch a clip of Priscilla Presley from “The Naked Gun” movie series.
A lot of her life has been spent in the public limelight. Priscilla Presley also managed to save Graceland, Elvis Presley’s home, from becoming unimportant. It was Priscilla who helped make Graceland into a multi-million-dollar tourist stop in Memphis, Tennessee. For that, Elvis fans should feel grateful to her.
Outsider wishes Priscilla Presley a very happy birthday.
