Iconic Wheel of Fortune host Vanna White turns 64 today. Here are some of the star’s best TV moments.
Wheel of Fortune debuted in 1975 making it one of the longest-running game shows of all time. Its competition includes Jeopardy! and The Price is Right. When most fans think of Wheel of Fortune, they immediately think of hosts Vanna White and Pat Sajak. Naturally, it seems as if the two of them have been there from the start of the show. However, the show went through a few different hosts before hiring Pat in 1981 and Vanna in 1982. You could say the show’s wheel of fortune turned when the iconic duo entered the scene.
In honor of the star’s 64th birthday, we’ve compiled a list of some of Vanna’s best career moments.
When Vanna White Turned Her First Letter On Wheel Of Fortune
It was a “T.” Vanna first appeared on the show in 1982 wearing a bright purple dress. From that moment on, she was an official member of the Wheel of Fortune family.
When She Appeared As Herself On ‘Full House’
Vanna soared to fame pretty quickly after her first appearance with the game show. Soon, she was making guest appearances on shows including The A-Team, Full House, The King of Queens, and Fresh off the Boat. In this episode of Full House, Vanna plays herself in a dream that DJ has while stressing out about college.
When She Became Godmother to a Cruise Ship
Vanna was recently named godmother of the Carnival Panorama, a Vista-class cruise ship. It’s a perfect match because both Vanna and Carnival share support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. During an interview, Vanna shared her thoughts on the unconventional godmother/cruise ship relationship.
“I think being a godmother to a ship means that person is giving the ship good luck,” said White. “I’m watching out for 1,500 crew members they have onboard and sending them good luck. The minute I walked onto the ship, I felt so protective of it.”
When Vanna White Filled in For Pat Sajak on Wheel Of Fortune
For the first time in her history with Wheel of Fortune, Vanna had to fill-in for her costar Pat in 2019. Pat was about to undergo emergency surgery and producers asked Vanna to take his place for the episode. During an interview, Vanna shared what it was like to step into that role on the show.
“I was really nervous,” said Vanna. “Our executive producer came to me and said, ‘How would you feel about hosting the show?’ I didn’t have time to say no. I said yes, not knowing what that entailed. Really, after 37 years of being at the puzzle board. I’ve never really paid attention to how Pat runs the show.”
Vanna added that making the transition was like, “going from first baseman to pitcher of the game, but you’re not sure how to pitch.”
