Henry Winkler remembered his former co-star Jessica Walter after her tragic passing.
Winkler seemed to discover her death via Twitter. He responded to a reporter’s tweet about Walter’s memory and passing. Winkler portrayed Barry Zuckerkorn on the show while Walter portrayed Lucille Bluth.
“OH NO …We worked together for years on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT,” he wrote. “It was an honor to watch her comedy explode from the very first row.”
On Wednesday (March 24), Walter passed away in her sleep at her home in New York City. She was 80.
Furthermore, her surviving daughter Brooke Bowman issued a statement regarding her mother’s passing.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom Jessica,” Bowman said, per Deadline. “A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on-screen and off. While her legacy will live on through her body of work, she will also be remembered by many for her wit, class and overall joie de vivre.”
Finally, instead of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in her honor to Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
Other ‘Arrested Development’ Co-Stars Pay Tribute to Jessica Walter
Additionally, Henry Winkler wasn’t the only Arrested Development cast member to write about Jessica Walter’s passing.
Firstly, Tony Hale, who portrayed Walter’s character Lucille Bluth’s son, Buster, paid tribute to his Arrested Development mother. “She was a force, and her talent and timing were unmatched. Rest In Peace Mama Bluth,” Tony Hale wrote.
Secondly, the show’s producer, John Levenstein shared articles about his former co-worker on his social media accounts. “Jessica Walter never missed,” he wrote. “If she didn’t get a laugh there was a problem with the script.”
Thirdly, Davis Cross, who portrayed her character’s son-in-law, Tobias Fünke, had additional condolences. The actor couldn’t speak highly enough of Watler.
“I just heard the s—ty news about Jessica Walter an absolutely brilliant actress and amazing talent. I consider myself privileged and very lucky to have been able to work with her. Lucille Bluth is one of TV’s greatest characters,” he added.
Finally, Alia Shawkat, who starred as her granddaughter, Maeby Fünke, was heartbroken over the news. Shawkat also posted a photo of Walter as a young woman.
