Fans of the animated Pixar classic “Monsters, Inc.” will be excited to learn that a new spin-off series featuring many of the same characters is premiering on Disney+ soon. Even more exciting is the introduction of new characters. One of whom, Fritz, will be voiced by “Happy Days” star Henry Winkler. The legendary actor took to Twitter to drum up some excitement for the show.
“Monsters at Work” will pick up six months after the events of the 2001 “Monsters, Inc.” The series is set to premiere on July 2. And yes, it will include both Billy Crystal and John Goodman, the original voice actors behind Mike and Sully. Henry Winkler could hardly contain his excitement.
Along with the “Happy Days” star, other new additions to the cast include Mindy Kaling, Aisha Tyler, and Lucas Neff. And even if you don’t have kids, Henry Winkler assures folks that they made the show for all ages to appreciate.
Billy Crystal, the voice of Mike Wazowski , talked to Disney+ about the upcoming show.
“The show, time-wise, starts six months after Monsters Inc ended,” he explained. “So now we’re on the Laugh Floor. We’ve created all of the new, young, great characters with some great voice actors, and John and I are reprising our parts,” he said. “I tell ya, it’s [been] 20 years [since the release of Monsters, Inc] and that movie looked amazing 20 years ago. It’s fantastic looking, it’s hilarious, and we’re having a lot of fun doing it.”
What the ‘Happy Days’ star and the Rest of the Cast are Doing in ‘Monsters at Work’
The 2001 classic “Monsters, Inc.” saw Mike and Sully as partners in fear. They worked for Monsters Incorporated, the largest scare factory around. Sully is at the top of his game, capable of scaring anyone or anything. But when Boo, a little human girl, follows them back into the Monster world, they have to find a way to get her home. And they befriend her in the process.
The new series sees the monsters in an entirely different line of work. They’ve pivoted from scaring kids as a source of energy for Monstropolis to making them laugh instead. And that in itself appears to be a major source of conflict in the show.
The Disney+ YouTube channel posted a sneak peek promo video recently. It gives fans a look at some of the characters, new and old, featured in the upcoming series.
From the video, it seems that Henry Winkler’s character Fritz is responsible for the maintenance work done at the Monsters Inc. Facilities.
“The Monsters Inc. Facilities Team! If a machine needs maintenance, we maintain it,” Henry Winkler says as Fritz.
