Sean Connery passed away on October 31, and Harrison Ford honored the late actor with some touching words. In an interview with Variety, Ford talked about how much Connery meant to him. Ford, now 76, starred alongside Connery in the third “Indiana Jones” movie.
Connery is remembered most for his roles as James Bond in the ultra-popular Bond movies in the early 1960s to early ’80s. But, in 1989 Ford and Connery combined to star in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”. Connery played Indiana Jones’ father in “the Last Crusade”. An instant box office success, it skyrocketed with close to 500 million dollars in revenue.
In the Variety interview, Ford says “God, we had fun”. Undoubtedly, the two handsome gentlemen must have had more than their fair share of fun.
Ford Praises Connery
“You don’t know pleasure until someone pays you to take Sean Connery for a ride in the side car of a Russian motorcycle bouncing along a bumpy, twisty mountain trail and getting to watch him squirm. God, we had fun – if he’s in heaven, I hope they have golf courses. Rest in peace, dear friend.”
Ford continued though, talking about the lasting impact Connery had on both him and on the film industry, in general. Ford said, “Sir Sean Connery, through his talent and drive, left an indelible mark in cinematic history. His audiences spanned generations, each with favorite roles he played. He will always hold a special place in my heart as Indy’s dad.”
Ford added later on in the interview that Connery had a way of making everyone feel at home. Whether that was some mischief onset, a big hug, or a stern talking to, everyone on the crew was elevated by Connery’s presence. Ford also talked about the intelligence that Connery had, saying that it was awe-inspiring.
Ford said too that, “I’m thankful for having had the good fortune to have known and worked with him. My thoughts are with his family”.
Connery is survived by his brother, wife and two children. All of whom, will continue to live on in the legacy that he created.
