‘Happy Days’ and ‘Arrested Development’ icon Henry Winkler is paying tribute to late Hollywood attorney Howard Weitzman with a touching message and photo of an LA billboard erected in his honor.

Howard Weitzman – famed attorney to Michael JacksonO.J. SimpsonArnold Schwarzenegger, and countless other celebrities – died this week after battling cancer. The news broke on April 8. Weitzman was 81.

In light of this loss, icon Henry Winkler is paying tribute to his late friend Friday. Howard’s first wife, Stacey, is now married to Winkler. Stacey was married to Weitzman from 1969 to 1976, and would marry ‘Happy Days’ alum Henry Winkler two years later in 1978. The two have been together ever since.

“Howard Weitzman touched so many with his generosity,” Winkler shared Friday. Alongside his touching caption, the icon shares a photo of a billboard erected in LA in honor of the esteemed attorney.

Howard Weitzman, 1939-2021, held an illustrious, high-profile career spanning over five decades. Often seen by modern audiences in his ‘Dateline,’ ‘Good Morning America,’ and ‘CBS This Morning’ appearances, the Hollywood law specialist became synonymous with taking care of Tinsel Town’s most notable legal issues. In addition to his work with the law, Weitzman was well-known for his philanthropy and generosity, as Henry Winkler posts in-memoriam.

The Life and Work of Howard Weitzman

Perhaps one of the strongest testaments to Weitzman’s goodwill came alongside the murder trial(s) of O.J. Simpson. After representing Simpson for a single day, Howard Weitzman then quit the case and dropped O.J. as a client. Hollywood Legend cites Weitzman’s wife, Margaret, urged him not to continue down that path. After his first day in O.J.’s presence – Weitzman agreed. In hindsight, it’s not hard to see why.

Among his other most infamous clients were Michael Jackson, Magic JohnsonArnold SchwarzeneggerMorgan FreemanMarlon BrandoOzzy OsbourneCourtney Love, and Justin Bieber.

Weitzman repped Michael Jackson’s Estate from the beginning of the pop star’s legal battles, with his base of operations being in LA for his entire career. The attorney was also born in Los Angeles – where he was raised, as well. His law career began, too, in the City of Angels at Los Angeles City College and USC Law School. Afterward, he would found the Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump LLP law firm. From it, he would be the lead trial attorney in more than 300 civil and criminal cases spanning more than 50 years.

Weitzman also used his expertise for philanthropy and teaching. He would lecture at USC Law School, Georgetown Law Center, UCLA, and Harvard, among other universities. In addition, Howard taught trial advocacy at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law for over a decade.

Howard Weitzman would win the coveted Jerry Giesler Memorial Award for “Outstanding Trial Lawyer” in his home of Los Angeles. His wife, Margaret, and their two children – Jed and Armen, survive him.
