Actor Hugh Jackman is the latest celebrity to post a tribute to the late cinematic icon, Sean Connery.
Connery was a multi-award-winning actor and was the defining James Bond. He passed away at the age of 90 after a long, illustrious career.
“I grew up idolizing #SeanConnery. A legend on screen, and off. Rest In Peace.” Jackman wrote on Twitter.
Connery played the secret agent in seven films (Dr. No, You Only Live Twice, From Russia With Love, Thunderball, Diamonds Are Forever, Goldfinger, and Never Say Never Again – and is considered to be the best actor to ever play James Bond). Without a doubt, his take on author Ian Fleming’s character propelled the film series into the silver screen juggernaut it is today.
While 007 was Connery’s main role, He stars in other famous films, including Indiana Jones and The Hunt for Red October. Connery also received an Oscar nomination for The Untouchables.
Sean Connery’s second wife, painter Micheline Roquebrune, survives her late-husband. His son, Jason Connery, as well as Jason’s son, survive their beloved family member.
Others Pay Their Respects to Sean Connery
Actor Sam Neill, worked alongside Connery in the 1990 film, The Hunt for Red October. He also paid tribute to his late costar.
“Every day on set with #SeanConnery was an object lesson in how to act on screen,” Neill wrote on Twitter. “But all that charisma and power- that was utterly unique to Sean . RIP that great man , that great actor.”
The official James Bond Twitter account also posted a message on Saturday. “We are devastated by the news of the passing of Sir Sean Connery,” the statement began.
“He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words — ‘The name’s Bond… James Bond’ — he revolutionised the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent,” the statement continued. “He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”

Furthermore, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon posted a six-tweet thread acknowledging the death of Connery. “Our nation today mourns one of her best loved sons.”
