While she never approached the level of fame of her famous daughter, Cher’s mother Georgia Holt dipped her toe into the spotlight. Her career even included an appearance on the famous sitcom “I Love Lucy.”
According to an article on MeTV, Holt’s given name was Jackie Jean Crouch. She was born in 1926 and worked as a model during the 1940s and 1950s. During the 1950s, she reportedly had some brief appearances on television shows and movies. She was not credited for this work, however. Holt was in an episode of “Artists and Models” as well as an episode of “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.”
Her appearance in “I Love Lucy” came during 1956, according to the article. “Lucy Gets a Paris Gown” is the title of the episode. It finds the show’s central characters – Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel – in Paris. Lucy really wants Ricky to buy her a dress by designer Jacques Marcel. And, as in most “I Love Lucy” episodes, hilarity ensues.
Cher’s Mom Appears as a Model on ‘I Love Lucy’ Paris Episode
As part of the plot of the episode, Ricky and Fred create clothes for Lucy and Ethel out of items one normally wouldn’t wear, like a bucket and potato sacks. Lucy and Ethel wear the clothes. Then they get embarrassed when they discover that the clothes are real fashion attire.
Holt’s moment on screen in “I Love Lucy” comes as one of the models wearing clothes by Jacques Marcel. The joke is that what the models wear looks very similar to the clothes created by Ricky and Fred, according to the article.
This wasn’t the only time she worked on a show with the legendary Lucille Ball. According to the article, Holt again acted as a model in “The Lucy Show.” She appeared in the episode entitled “Lucy and Pat Collins.”
Classic Show was Influence on ‘That 70s Show’
“I Love Lucy” has been influential, to say the least. It has been an inspiration to many actors and writers in the decades since its last episode aired.
One product of that influence was “That 70s Show.” This hit comedy aired from 1998-2006 and followed six teenagers living in Point Place, Wisconsin.
One of the actors on the show, Wilmer Valderrama, has said that he was inspired by Desi Arnaz. Arnaz played Ricky Ricardo on “I Love Lucy.” Valderrama played the character of Fez on “That 70s Show.”
So, what about Arnaz on “I Love Lucy” influenced Valderrama? It was seeing another actor with an accent be celebrated and successful on television.
“When I saw Desi Arnaz on television, with an accent, being as Latino as he really was, I felt like I could do it myself,” Valderrama said during an interview with Yahoo! “I felt that could be me.”
