There’s one Tulsa Oklahoma house that, back in the day, was full of some of Hollywood’s biggest A-list stars. Once Hollywood “outsiders”, stars such as Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, Rob Lowe, Emilio Esteves, Diane Lane, and C. Thomas Howell established themselves as Hollywood’s most sought-after players in the business; while portraying some of their most memorable characters inside the Tulsa home.
In 1983, the now infamous group actors filmed a timelessly classic movie that rocketed the once Hollywood “outsiders” into stardom; finding iconic star status while playing in the pop-culture classic, The Outsiders.
A Pop Culture Home Brings Some Big Names Inside
Now, the famous home seen in the 1983 pop culture phenomenon, The Outsiders has recently attracted even more big names; as crowds flock to tour this piece of movie history.
Stars such as Leonardo Dicaprio and members of the rock group, Green Day have stopped by the unique landmark in recent months just to get a glimpse of the famous Curtis brothers home featured in The Outsiders. Now, not only is the home available to visit but it has now been turned into a pop-culture museum.
A Labor of Love
The Tulsa Oklahoma home’s exterior was used to film the iconic 1983 film The Outsiders – a long-standing pop culture phenomenon film based on the 1967 novel written by SE Hinton.
This house was purchased by former House of Pain rapper Danny Boy O’Connor several years ago, and since then, the entertainer has converted the famous Tulsa Oklahoma Home into a museum for The Outsiders movie.
According to the rapper, the project has been a “labor of love,” as he worked hard to convert the dwelling into the Outsiders tribute that it is today.
A Classic For the ‘The Outsiders’ Generation
In addition to the now-iconic cast, the movie boasts a legendary director behind the classic: Francis Ford Coppola.
“That was our Gone with the Wind,” O’Connor said of the film. “That was our American Graffiti.” the rapper adds.
“Every generation finds the cool archetypes of who we could be,” O’Connor explained. “And that for me was the movie.”
O’Connor added that since purchasing the house he has had many visitors in various age groups.
“From 8 to 80 to everything in between,” O’Connor said of his clientele.
“It’s usually the whole family,” the rapper said. “It’s a family museum.”
The one-of-a-kind museum also includes memorabilia from the iconic Outsiders movie set such as furniture, posters, and photos. Matt Dillon’s leather jacket worn by his character in The Outsider’s, Dallas Winston is also featured in the museum.
A Phenomonal Piece of Movie History
The story of The Outsiders takes place in Oklahoma during the 1960s. The story follows the tension, and devastating results stemming from a rivalry between two gangs; the “Socials,” (Socs for short), and the “Greasers.”
This was Curtis’s brother’s (C.Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, and Patrick Swayze) home in the film. The Tusla home was also the general hangout for the Greaser crew.
O’Connor wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with the building when he purchased it in 2015. However, he just knew it was important. Each time the performer found himself near the Tulsa Oklahoma landmark, he would make a beeline for the home.
“This is phenomenal,” the rapper said. “And I mean that in the true sense of the word.”
O’Connor added that it was with donations through a GoFundMe account that he was able to make the necessary repairs to turn the home into the landmark we see today.
“I didn’t know what I was doing,” he said.
“I saw a house from one of my favorite movies,” the fifty-two-year-old O’Connor added.
“Tulsans helped me,” he said. “People from the movie helped me. Okies helped me.”
