NCIS: Los Angeles fans look forward to Sunday nights when their favorite four agents take down some of the most conniving and elusive criminals. But unfortunately, they may have to wait a bit longer for their next fix of the popular series.
There won’t be a new episode airing tonight or for the rest of 2021. In fact, the next NCIS: Los Angeles feature, “Last Soldier Down,” won’t be until January 2. We’re not sure the reason yet, but we do know that the episode will be worth the wait.
Why? Because series star Daniela Ruah will be directing again!
Also notable is the fact that Deeks will be trying his hand at a few home renovation projects, and, knowing the NCIS: Los Angeles character’s goofy demeanor, there’s bound to be some antics ahead.
Just as before, in the upcoming episode, Kenzie won’t be a huge part of the storyline in order to best serve her duties as the director, but we will get to see her giving some direction to Deeks as he tries to recreate their backyard.
Of course, there will also be a dramatic, perhaps even chaotic, case for the team to conquer, but there will be just as many opportunities for gasps as laughs.
Check out the synopsis that CBS released:
“NCIS investigates the apparent suicide of a Navy intelligence officer who leapt to his death after taking LSD. Also, while Kensi is away, Deeks makes plans to redo the backyard without her input, on the CBS Original series NCIS: LOS ANGELES, Sunday, Jan. 2 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. Episode is directed by series star Daniela Ruah.”
Which ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Episode Did Daniela Ruah Direct in the Past?
Recently, Ruah has decided to pursue her interests behind the scenes in addition to her starring role as Kenzie on NCIS: Los Angeles. Back in Season 12, we saw Ruah’s first credit as a director.
The episode entitled “Russia, Russia, Russia” followed G. Callen to the National Counterterrorism Center to interrogate a Russian asset. Unfortunately, the agents detain the NCIS: Los Angeles star instead and accuse him of being the foreign agent.

Ruah Has Since Stretched Her Directorial Wings Overseas
Since her first directorial credit in Season 12 of the series, Ruah has also shown her skills behind the cameras in a movie based in Torres Vedras, Portugal called Os Vivos, o Morto e o Peixe Frito.
Translation: The Living, the Dead and the Fried Fish.
Now that she’s had a bit more experience directing outside of the show, we can likely expect a few new tricks from the NCIS: Los Angeles actress-made director.
