Longtime actor Daniel Craig may be turning in his license to kill, but the story of James Bond is far from over.

Daniel Craig has portrayed the debonaire British special agent with a special “license to kill” since he starred in the 007 vehicle, Casino Royale in 2006.

But, the actor recently announced that he is bowing out of the role after the most recent James Bond installment No Time To Die.

Since the announcement, MGM executives have been on top of the task of finding the perfect new James Bond. However, the journey to replace the 007 agent is still well underway and the battle among actors to land the role is still wide open.

“It’s wide open,” says MGM’s President of Motion Pictures Pamela Addy about the big search.

Discussions to Replace Craig as James Bond Have Been Underway

According to Pamela Addy, the MGM studios have been in preliminary conversations with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the producers of the iconic 007 films about Daniel Craig’s replacement. Conversations to replace Craig began even before the release of the latest Jame Bond flick.

“We’ve had very early preliminary conversations with Barbara and Michael,” the MGM executive said of the search in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “But we wanted Daniel to have his last hurrah.”

Reports say that since the announcement that Daniel Craig was bowing out of his James Bond role after No Time To Die, multiple actors have inquired about taking on the role of the iconic agent in upcoming films.

No names have been specifically confirmed to replace Craig. However, there have been rumors that Mad Max and Venom star Tom Hardy may be among those on the list.

Additionally, it is said that Regé-Jean Page who portrayed Simon Basset in the surprise Netflix hit Bridgerton has been considered.

Lashana Lynch, who has a role in the new Bond film, is another contender to fill in as Bond. Of course, casting the actress in this role would be a history-making a history-making move. Lashana Lynch would be the very first female 007.

Another major star that has been reported to be a possible James Bond is Avengers actor Idris Elba. However, reports now say that the star has another role waiting in an upcoming Bond film.

However, this role is that of a Bond villain rather than the iconic agent himself.

According to reports, Idris Elba has a fairly guaranteed role in an upcoming James Bond film. However, he won’t be the lead character. Rather, Elba’s role will likely be a completely original character in the franchise.
