The Scottish acting legend Sean Connery has died. The multi-award-winning actor was the defining James Bond and had a long, illustrious career. He was 90-years-old.

Connery played the secret agent in seven films (Dr. No, You Only Live Twice, From Russia With Love, Thunderball, Diamonds Are Forever, Goldfinger, and Never Say Never Again – and is considered to be the best actor to ever play James Bond). Without a doubt, his take on author Ian Fleming’s character propelled the film series into the silver screen juggernaut it is today.

The former Sexiest Man Alive boasts an extensive career beyond his James Bond performance, though. He stars in other famous films, including Indiana Jones and The Hunt for Red October. Connery also received an Oscar nomination for The Untouchables.

Furthermore, he was knighted by the Queen at Holyrood Palace in 2000, received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1999, and the American Film Institutes lifetime achievement award in 2006.

The Name’s Connery, Sir Sean Connery

Sir Sean Connery, the first actor to play James Bond, gave a stunning performance in the now universally-acclaimed movie series’ debut in 1962.

The official James Bond ‘007’ Twitter account remembers the iconic actor by sharing a vintage image of Connery, Saturday morning.

The movie Twitter also adds remarks from the movie producers, sharing their remorse and honoring the acting legend. Connery was the first to utter the unforgettable line: The name’s Bond… James Bond.

With those five words, he undoubtedly transformed the acting world. The producers say of Connery, “He is undoubtedly responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”

Sean Connery’s second wife, painter Micheline Roquebrune, whom he married in 1975, survives her late-husband, Variety reports. His son, Jason Connery, as well as Jason’s son, survive their beloved family member, the global acting icon Sean Connery.
