May the force be with you as you celebrate your 90th birthday, James Earl Jones.

Jones is an Oscar-nominated film and Broadway stage actor. He has lent his powerful and unique voice to iconic characters, such as Darth Vader of the Star Wars franchise and Mufasa from Disney’s “The Lion King.”

He will safely and quietly celebrate this landmark birthday from his home in upstate New York. The talented actor and voice-over artist tells of his plans to treat himself to one of his favorite desserts on Sunday.

“I’ll make an exception and enjoy a slice of strawberry shortcake, my favorite!” he tells USA Today via email.

James Earl Jones Has a Special Birthday Wish

For his birthday wish, his focus is on praying for more hopeful and better times in the upcoming year.

“In order for us to heal and move forward, we need to learn to love and respect each other,” says Jones. “That will be my wish when I blow out my birthday candles.”

After surviving a healthy and productive 90 years of life on the planet, as well as decades of success both on screen and on stage, James Earl Jones deserves to be honored for all of his achievements.

Jones says he’s “feeling fantastic and grateful at 90 years old. Looking back at my life and extensive career, I am so proud of my work and accomplishments. I love growing older and wiser with time.”

The actor has taken on almost every aspect of the industry. He’s performed in many popular Broadway productions. He’s touched on many acting genres while onscreen, including comedy, drama, action family-friendly films, and cartoon voiceovers.

Many Years of Success Onstage and Onscreen

In the Star Wars franchise, James lent his voice to portray the masked villain Darth Vader, who is a crucial character of one of the most successful science fiction-based movie brands. Star Wars uses the actor’s uniquely deep and powerful voice to speak one of the most well-known lines in the movie industry, with that being, “Luke, I am your father.”

Star Wars social media accounts announced the actor’s birthday by writing, “He’s got the most iconic voice in the galaxy” and inviting fans to leave birthday wishes. Fellow actors took to social media to wish the star a happy birthday, as well.

Returning to Previous Roles at 90 Years Old

In 2019, James Earl Jones returned as two of his most beloved characters. In “The Lion King” remake, he voiced Mufasa, the king of the Pridelands and father of Simba. He also returned as Lord Vader in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

“I feel young at heart, and I love to work and will continue to act for as long as I can,” insists James Earl Jones. He says he will “spend the day reflecting on past years and thinking about what’s next” during his birthday.”

“Or perhaps I’ll celebrate the day by watching ‘Coming to America’ again!”

The next role Jones will be taking on is his return as King Jaffe Joffer in “Coming 2 America.”

The sequel to the 1988 original comedy “Coming to America” will include Eddie Murphy as Prince Hakeem. The movie will begin streaming on Amazon Prime on March 5

Jones writes he was “honored” to return to the role and that “being on set brought back wonderful memories, and to see so many familiar faces again was pure joy.”

James Earl Jones Speaks Acting Career Over His Lifetime

When it comes to the life lessons Jones has learned over the years, he says it’s all about experience in terms of getting through tough times.

“I got out of the Army – in my world – I came to New York, for instance, when the civil rights movement was just beginning, and that created a certain energy, a certain rumble, a certain impetus for black actors,” Jones recalls.

“The goal wasn’t to be a millionaire or to be a Hollywood star. That was not the goal. The goal was something about – the goal was to find the goal, but I knew where it was,” he adds.

After 90 years of living, he advises focusing on doing what you love as a way of coping with the hard times life may hand you.

“The arts have always been an important ingredient to the health of a nation, but we haven’t gotten there yet,” says the birthday boy.
