The star of Halloween Kills Jamie Lee Curtis revealed a shocking truth about working with one of her memorable costars in Arnold Schwarzenegger from True Lies.

Curtis is one of the most iconic movie stars of her era, and one of her most memorable roles for so many cinema buffs was when she played opposite of legendary film star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, in the 1994 classic True Lies.

From the outside, it seems wild that Schwarzenegger would have had any issues with Curtis playing his love interest in True Lies, even with the 12-year age gap between the two, but Schwarzenegger had to be talked into working with Curtis on this film.

Issues about their potential partnership on the set arose not because of the relationship between Curtis and Schwarzenegger, but actually the relationship between Schwarzenegger and Curtis’ father, Tony, a famous actor in his own right.

Here is what Curtis told Yahoo! Entertainment about why Schwarzenegger was uncomfortable working with the younger Curtis on True Lies.

“Arnold knew me as Tony’s daughter. He only knew me as Tony’s daughter. He loved Tony Curtis. So I’m sure Arnold just looked at me like it’d be like kissing your niece or something … I guarantee, in fact, he did not want me to be in that movie. I think he just thought it would be weird. We knew each other a little bit socially. I just don’t think he thought of me as his leading lady. I think he thought of me as Tony’s little girl. And it was Jim who said, ‘No, I’ve written this for her. She’s the one to do this with you.’”

James Cameron Spoke with Arnold Schwarzenegger

Luckily for the fans of the duo, Schwarzenegger was able to move his early hesitation due to the fact that he both respects Curtis’ father so much, and how he saw the younger Curtis as a family member. The role required Schwarzenegger, who played Harry Tasker to sign onto the younger Curtis as his wife, Helen Tasker.

According to Curtis, it was Cameron, who she refers to as “Jim”, who ultimately persuaded Arnold to work with Jamie Lee on what would become a classic movie.

Fans of both Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold will be happy to know that the two iconic Hollywood stars are still friends to this day with the former wishing the latter well after undergoing heart surgery last year.

Legendary filmmaker James Cameron directed True Lies, which released on July 15, 1994. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a score of 71%. Fans of Curtis and Schwarzenegger can stream the film now on HBO NOW.
