Iconic for his impressive biceps and long curling hair, Jason Momoa and former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista made major moves this week following their initial film proposal that went viral earlier this summer. Serving as costars on Apple TV+’s “See” and Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Dune,” the two concluded they would love to star together in a buddy cop film directed by David Leitch. Now, it appears those aspirations are coming true. Their idea for the buddy-cop film has just been picked up by the iconic media company, MGM.

According to ComingSoon, MGM beat out three other media networks in a competitive bidding war. The pair confirmed their work on the buddy cop film two months ago. At the time, they were simply waiting for someone to fully adopt the idea.

As per the outlet, the action-comedy is set to be produced by Jonathan Trooper. And of course, the film will star Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista. The buddy-cop theme is the essence of the new film. However, the two actors intend for the story to take place in Hawaii in the line of the “Lethal Weapon” films.

At the moment, the film remains nameless. Although work on it reportedly doesn’t begin until 2023. For now, the two stars are currently involved in two separate projects of their own. Currently, Dave Bautista remains on the set of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” while Jason Momoa continues to work on “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

Jason Momoa Believes Buddy-Cop Film will Sell Itself

While the buddy-cop film promises a boatload of action and humor as it stars the WWE wrestler and Jason Momoa himself, the latter believes the final film will sell itself. The “Aquaman” star previously appeared on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” to discuss the film.

“[The movie] sells itself,” Momoa previously shared on the show. “Dave loves wearing speedos. I love wearing board shorts. Ya know, both of us with our shirts off…He’ll be grumpy, I’ll be charming. Boom. It sells itself, bro.”

Further, during his appearance on the show, he and Corden discussed potential titles, although apparently, nothing seemed to stick. However, while the show host could not pinpoint a title in working with the star, he did say that if someone were to come up with a creative title, the movie’s production might take off instantly.

While I personally can’t dispute that, the pairing of the two actors surely makes for one memorable film.

Additionally, it definitely helps that Jason Momoa’s partner for the film, Bautista, has starred in buddy-cop films like the growing story itself. According to ComingSoon, Bautista recently starred in the 2019 film “Stuber” and the 2020 film, “My Spy.”

On the other hand, Momoa’s recently starred in other popular genres with the action-thriller “Sweet Girl” and the comedy-adventure “Slumberland.”
