Guest-host Aaron Rodgers posted a “Day 1 Jeopardy Recap” video to Instagram following his debut episode. He told his followers all about his experience on the show, but he also revealed some behind-the-scenes details that “Jeopardy!” fans may find interesting.
Many may be surprised to learn that the host can see a live feed of what the contestants are writing during Final Jeopardy.
“A little insight,” Rodgers said in the video. “As the host, at my podium, I get to see what they’re writing, so I saw him writing, beginning to write something about kicking the field goal. And then had to get to my spot. I didn’t see the rest of his writing. So I knew there was going to be some sort of humor in there. And it allowed the reaction to be really genuine.”
The hilarious moment, for those that missed it, came when the winning contestant used his Final Jeopardy platform to poke fun at the Green Bay Packers quarterback over his team’s loss in the playoffs.
Another tidbit Rodgers dropped came in his response to the question of whether or not he would quit football to pursue hosting “Jeopardy!” full time. This one is for those who may be curious about the game show’s shooting schedule.
“‘Jeopardy!’ films five shows a day, 46 days a year. That’s 230 episodes. And I work for six months out of the year. So the other six months, I would have time to probably film 46 days I think,” Rodgers said.
It’s easy to think of the show as a real-time event, especially when the performances of the guest-hosts are talked about so much. But it’s important to remember that all of these episodes were taped weeks to months ago and are just now airing on TV.
‘Jeopardy!’ Guest-Host Gives Big Shoutout To Crew
Aaron Rodgers wasn’t going to talk about his time on the show without giving credit where credit is due. The people behind the scenes are the ones who make it all happen, after all.
“I met some amazing people on the crew. Some people who’ve been there forever. Lifers. 25-plus years working on the show. The hair and makeup ladies, the security guys, the Covid officer, who was literally attached to my hip the entire time, making sure my mask was on. Mike Richards, the EP. Lisa, Rocky, Billy the head writer, all the researchers.”
Rodgers finished by saying that he wished he could go back to the set someday. Again stating his desire to step into Alex Trebek’s shoes as the new permanent host of the show.
