‘Jeopardy!’: Aaron Rodgers Teases ‘Viral’ Moment That Will Occur Early in Hosting Run

by Quentin Blount

It won’t be long before Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers takes the Jeopardy! podium for his stint as the show’s guest host.

A long-time Jeopardy! fan, Rodgers will begin his two-week stint as host on Monday evening. And as a bit of a teaser, the 2021 NFL MVP said that he thinks a certain moment from his first episode as host has the potential to go viral.

In a phone interview with ESPN on Friday, Rodgers tells fans to “just wait until they see the first show.”

“Just wait until you see the first show and what the returning champion wrote, and then think about me standing at the podium watching — and this will make sense when you see what he wrote — and I’m watching him write this down,” Rodgers said.

We’re not exactly sure what to expect come Monday night, but now Aaron Rodgers has us more excited than ever to tune in.

“For about 25 seconds, I’m watching him write this, and he thinks about the answer and says ‘F— it,’ basically, ‘I’m going to write this answer,’ which, probably one of the viral moments of my two weeks will be his response, which is taking a shot at something that happened to us late in the season,” Rodgers explains.

The all-pro quarterback has been a die-hard Jeopardy! fan for a long time. So being able to experience the show from behind the host’s podium was a completely new experience — one that he says was “pretty amazing.”

“But it was unbelievable as the host,” Rodgers admits. “I’m watching him and going, ‘I can’t believe I’m watching him write this.’ It was pretty amazing.”

Aaron Rodgers Says He Studied Long-Time ‘Jeopardy!’ Host Alex Trebek

By the sounds of it, Aaron Rodgers has not been taking the opportunity to host his favorite show lightly. As a matter of fact, he’s been studying the show like he’s preparing for a final exam.

Rodgers said that he studied hours upon hours to prepare. He found himself watching multiple episodes but not from his usual fan perspective — he had to get into the mind of the late Alex Trebek.

“I took pages and pages and pages of notes,” he explained. “I wrote down every affirmative that he said to any type of clue and wrote down how he would respond if they didn’t get it right.”

It seems like the top dogs at Jeopardy! were impressed by Rodgers and his dedication to being great at what he does. But should they be surprised? Well, probably not. It is Aaron Rodgers we are talking about after all.

“One of the head producers said as much,” Rodgers told ESPN. “She was like, ‘I’m just so appreciative of your approach.’ And my whole thing was I felt like the best way to honor Alex’s memory was to be so dialed in and so ready, and that’s the approach I took. So I was ready to rock and roll.”
