Hit game show Jeopardy! is preparing to enter its yearly “Tournament of Champions” next week, bringing previous winners to the competition.

The annual Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions features only the best of the best. Only multi-game winners return for the tournament as they compete against each other once again. The tournament episode stakes are much higher than a typical Jeopardy! episode. Tournament players will be competing for a very large sum of money and the title of “Champion of Champions.”

Using its social media pages, Jeopardy! announces just how much is at stake during the tournament. There is a handsome reward for the tournament’s winner, adding to the total they have already won in previous episodes. The social media post features current Jeopardy! guest host Bill Whitaker explaining what is up for grabs as the tournament approaches.

“The Tournament of Champions starts next week!” the Instagram post reveals. “Tune in for the best of the best competing for $250,000.”

Addressing the television audience before the start of a recent episode, Whitaker says the Jeopardy! tournament brings forth only the best.

“Since I have been guest hosting I have seen some great performances from the contestants,” he says. “Starting next week, you are going to see the best of the best when Jeopardy! presents its Tournament of Champions.”

‘Jeopardy!’ Favorite Will Host ‘Tournament of Champions’

Whitaker will wrap up his guest-hosting tenure with his final Jeopardy! episode coming this Friday. Former Tournament of Champions and Alex Trebek-favorite Buzzy Cohen will take on hosting duties for the tournament. The annual Tournament of Champions will run from May 17 to May 28, when a winner will be crowned. Longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek once nicknamed Cohen “Mr. Personality” and was said to be a favorite of his. He also became a fan favorite during his 2016 run on the show, emerging victorious in nine straight episodes. Cohen won $164,603 during his nine-game winning streak. He also won the 2017 edition of the Tournament of Champions and was selected as an all-star team captaining 2019.

Upon completion of the two-week tournament, Jeopardy! will return to its regular schedule. Actress Mayim Bialik, most known for roles in “Blossom” and “Big Bang Theory” will assume the role of guest host. Journalist Savannah Guthrie waits in the wings for her opportunity once Bialik wraps up her stint.
