For decades upon decades now, the quiz show “Jeopardy!” continues churning out interesting factoids to increase your knowledge of the world around you.

While “Jeopardy!” prides itself on the competition aspect of the show, it also serves as an educational tool. You would have to try really hard to watch an episode and not learn something. The show also does an excellent job of engaging its enormous fan base through social media. “Jeopardy!” pulled out a real doozy on Tuesday, asking fans if they can solve the first-ever Crossword Puzzle. Created in 1913 for use by newspapers, fans seem to enjoy the challenge of solving the puzzle. The Crossword Puzzle is presented in six slides from the recent Instagram post. Several fans took a shot at the puzzle, eventually coming up with the correct answers.

“Can you fill in the blanks from the first Crossword Puzzle created in 1913?” the “Jeopardy!” social media post asks.

The post gives five clues that provide a nice challenge for loyal “Jeopardy!” fans.

“A day dream (7 letters),” the first clue states. “We will spot you the first letter, “R.”

The answer to the clue is “reverie” and several “Jeopardy!” fans were able to guess the correct answer. Another clue asks participants to guess an item found on practically every beach.

“Found on the seashore,” the clue states. The answer to this clue is “sand.” Of course, if you were to answer this clue on Jeopardy!, you would say “What is sand?” to collect the points.

‘Jeopardy!’ Forges Foward With Guest Hosts

‘Jeopardy!’ remains in a transition phase and has since the passing of longtime host, Alex Trebek, late last year. Trebek oversaw the game of “Jeopardy!” for nearly four decades before passing on November 8 of last year. He battled stage 4 pancreatic cancer for some time before passing at the age of 80. He recorded his final episodes of his beloved game show just days before his death.

In his absence, “Jeopardy!” has utilized a slew of celebrities to act as guest hosts until a permanent host can be found. It is believed that “Jeopardy!” officials would like to have a new permanent host in the near future.

In the meantime, the show rolls on with various celebrities standing behind the “Jeopardy!” host’s lectern. Actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik is currently serving as the game show’s host. Her two-week reign will end this Friday with journalist Savannah Guthrie set to begin her tenure the following Monday.
