On Friday night, former Jeopardy! champion James Holzhauer shared a hilarious letter from a 4th grader who ranked him among the other champions on the game show.
Holzhauer is well known to Jeopardy! fans for his multiple appearances on the quiz show. From April to June 2019, he went on a 32-game win streak on Jeopardy! He set numerous single-game records for earnings and even went on to claim victory at the Tournament of Champions later that same year. In addition, Holzhauer ranks third in all-time American game show earnings. So yea, he’s good at what he does.
Other former champions like Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter are stars of the game show as well. Jennings still holds the record for most consecutive victories with his 74-game win streak. Additionally, he won the exclusive tournament Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time in 2020 and took home a $1 million grand prize. Rutter has the second-highest earnings ever in American game show history, topping Holzhauer by one place. He’s also won more money on Jeopardy! than any other competitor, including Jennings.
Yet one child who’s a fan of the game show recently wrote to Holzhauer about where he stands in the greatest Jeopardy! champion rankings. The kid compliments the former champ, but it ends up amusingly being a bit of a backhanded compliment. The young fan acknowledges Holzhauer’s single day earnings record. But after that, things go south.
“You’re the third best Jeopardy player, but I feel like you should at least be the second best,” the 4th grader’s letter to Holzhauer reads.
“Out of the mouths of babes,” Holzhauer tweeted along with a photo of the hilarious letter.
‘Jeopardy!’ Legend Ken Jennings Pokes Fun at James Holzhauer
While the group of former champions each have found great success on Jeopardy!, they’ve also branched out to other game shows. Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer, and Brad Rutter all have roles on the game show The Chase.
Their knowledge and quiz show skills carry over well to The Chase as they compete against contestants trying to win money. In fact, the three men are also friends who often joke around with one another on social media, especially Jennings and Holzhauer. Just last week the two were back at it online and continuing their friendly rivalry.
With the premiere of The Chase coming up the next day, Jennings sent a subtle jab Holzhauer’s way on Twitter. Jennings’ banter was included along with a promotional video for the debut of the new season.
“The Chase is back, with all your favorites! And @James_Holzhauer!” Jennings captioned his tweet.
He even got in a solid dig within the video as well. While on The Chase, Jennings says that he “cleaned [Holzhauer’s] clock on national TV.” The Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time winner is likely referencing the tournament from last year, which he won fairly easily. It isn’t the first and won’t be the last jokes at either of the game show champions’ expense.
