“Jeopardy!” fans and executives are all back to square one.
The highly-covered search for the host of the popular trivia show, filling in for the beloved Alex Trebek, is back on. Mike Richards was selected as the host, only to step down nine days later after a slew of past controversial actions and statements came to light. He was also let go as the executive producer about a week later.
Mayim Bialik is filling in as the first guest host for three weeks as “Jeopardy!” selects more guest hosts to cycle through.
Similar to the first time around, several public figures are hoping for a chance behind the hosting podium on the most popular game show on TV. One of these individuals is Samantha Bee, who jokingly submitted a hilarious audition tape for the role.
Samantha Bee Hilarious ‘Audition’ for ‘Jeopardy!’
Bee is a comedian, producer, political commenter, and TV host. She currently hosts her own show on TBS called “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.”
Before that, she was a correspondent for “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
Her attempt at a “Jeopardy!” tape was full of hilarious banter not surprising for the former Comedy Central star. It’s a fast energy video full of punch line after punch line. At one point she even says, “There’s a category for four-letter words? Are you allowed to say f**k on ‘Jeopardy!?’”
She starts the video by saying, “Hi, I’m Samantha Bee and I’m auditioning for the part of new host of ‘Jeopardy!'” The screen has a description of her that claims she is 6’2″ and under “sex” it just says “yes please.”
She goes through different questions meanwhile spitting out comments like “Are we married to the name ‘Jeopardy!'” Samantha Bee, similar to many other fans of the trivia show, also seems to be putting in her support for LeVar Burton for the full-time job. He currently has a pretty big following, including several big-name celebrities, showing their support.
Possible Other Guest Hosts
While it may be a joke, she isn’t entirely someone the show would think about considering for the role. Several of the past guest hosts were TV show hosts. Bee’s role as a comedian and political commenter might make producers doublethink giving her a chance behind the podium. If they did, odds are she would make it pretty entertaining.
The description of the YouTube video even teases the format of “Jeopardy!” and herself by saying, “All those people who’ve been saying ‘who is Samantha Bee?’ for years were right!”
The YouTube video even serves as a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood. That means that the money from views is going to a beneficial cause.
Besides Mayim Bialik, no one else is on the roster yet as a future guest host. A popular YouTuber named Matthew Patrick, or MatPat, has received thousands of signatures on Change.org to get him a slot on the show. He’s the host of web series like “Game Theory,” “Film Theory,” and “Food Theory.” He’s been an educational source for a lot of people on the internet.
