On Friday morning, current Jeopardy! champion Matt Amodio shared an amusing request for guest host Joe Buck following last night’s “Field of Dreams” baseball game.
Last night, the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox played ball on a specially made field for the one-off game. The two teams appeared from the corn fields near the original baseball diamond from Kevin Costner’s popular 1989 movie. The fans in attendance didn’t just experience an amazing venue, but a great game as well. The high-scoring matchup went down to the wire as Chicago’s Tim Anderson hit a walk-off homer for the 9-8 win.
Amodio chimed in this morning sharing a photo of the game’s announcing duo of Joe Buck and former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz. Sticking with the retro “Field of Dreams” theme, the current Jeopardy! guest host is seen donning a bowtie in the broadcast booth. Yet Smoltz went all out with his vest and newsboy cap.
The ongoing game show champion who is now third in the all-time Jeopardy! rankings added a hilarious caption to the picture. He suggested that Buck should ask Smoltz to borrow his outfit so he can wear it on the last episode of the season tonight. In case the Hall of Fame pitcher didn’t oblige, he requested that Buck bring some corn back from the Dyersville, Iowa ballpark.
“Hey @buck, can you ask Smoltz to borrow that outfit for #jeopardy tonight? If not, at least bring some corn, please,” Amodio amusingly wrote along with a pair of corn emojis.
‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Now Third All-Time Highest Winner with $547,600
Matt Amodio continues to climb up the Jeopardy! rankings as one of the all-time winningest contestants in the game show’s history. He has now won 17 episodes in a row and only trails legendary contestants James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings. But considering Jennings has the all-time record with 74 straight wins, Amodio has a long way to go to catch up.
Regardless, Amodio has already made his mark on the game show. The Yale Ph.D. student has now earned $547,600 during his Jeopardy! stint, and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. He recently sat down for an interview with People and spoke about being “honored” to be in the same conversation as Holzhauer and Jennings.
“The show has had so many brilliant people [on it],” Amodio said. “I’m honored to be thought of as even close to them.”
While speaking with Vulture recently he also admitted there is one subject he struggles with. If anything could bring Amodio’s Jeopardy! streak to an end, it might just be questions in the pop culture categories.
“Pop culture in general. I did my best. Thankfully, if there’s one thing the internet has information on, it’s celebrities. That’s pretty easy,” he explained to Vulture. “I did my best to be interested in the minutiae of the celebrity eye. I’m naturally a curious person, which helps, but I still went in very skeptical. ‘This is gonna be miserable every second I spend on TMZ reading about these people.’ But as I learned more, I was able to appreciate the nuances of things and started asking questions.”
