‘Jeopardy!’: Did Matt Amodio Tease a Loss in Next Episode After Reaching 30 Wins?

by Leanne Stahulak

Current “Jeopardy!” champ Matt Amodio keeps making history on the iconic game show. But how long can his winning streak last?

Last night, Amodio won his 30th straight game and added $70,400 to his $1.1 million total. He’s only two games away from tying James Holzhauer for the second-highest number of consecutive wins. Though, he’s a long way behind the “Jeopardy!” legend in terms of earnings. Holzhauer raked in more than $2.4 million in 32 games.

“Jeopardy!” celebrated Amodio’s victory on their official Twitter page last night. They put together a collage of Amodio’s face throughout the show, writing, “30 wins look good on you, @AmodioMatt!”

Amodio’s response to the post was both grateful and just a tad strange to “Jeopardy!” fans. “Wow, 30 wins. I know whatever happens next, this has been the ride of a lifetime on #Jeopardy. Thanks to all of you for tuning in for all of the ups and downs!”

The phrase “Whatever happens next” never bodes well in action move goodbye scenes or in-game show competitions. We know Amodio filmed several episodes last month, with both Mike Richards and Mayim Bialik as host. So, he knows what will happen at least for the episodes already filmed.

Is he saying that his win streak will come to an end soon? Does he fear disappointing fans by losing when he’s so close to breaking another “Jeopardy!” record? Why does it sound like he’s saying goodbye?

Maybe we’re reading too far into this, Outsiders. But we’ve seen the “Jeopardy!” world suffer too much controversy and turmoil over the last year or so. It’s been nice to have a positive, exciting circumstance to focus on other than who the next host will be. We’ll have to tune in tonight to see whether Amodio’s words are a forewarning or just a sappy message.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Talks Becoming a Millionaire

On Monday, ‘Jeopardy!’ champ Matt Amodio broke the one million dollar mark on the same show. He’s only the third contestant to ever do so, behind James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings. After his monumental accomplishment, the game show sat down with him in an exclusive interview about his experience so far.

“I had this as way beyond my wildest dreams going in,” Amodio said about winning one million dollars. “I knew it was a possibility, but I thought it was a very remote possibility, and to have it actually happen is unbelievable.”

When he started winning big last season, Amodio said he plans on buying a house with his new “Jeopardy!” winnings. But now that’s only the beginning.

“Multiple houses,” Amodio joked. “No, I’m going to learn a lot about investing in the coming months.”
