Dr. Mehmet Oz, who recently did a two-week guest-hosting stint on “Jeopardy!”, has been accused of “making fun of” a contestant.
Oz, who’s made a name for himself with “The Dr. Oz Show,” gets caught by show winner Emily Seaman. What did Oz do? Well, he was making fun of her during a commercial break.
“It was just weird,” Seaman said of Oz, 60, in an interview with The New York Post. “I don’t think he likes ‘Jeopardy!'”
Contestant Overhears Oz Making Dig To ‘Jeopardy!’ Producers
According to Seaman, she overheard Oz talking to “Jeopardy!” show producers. In addition, this happened when she missed a question after dominating a topic category.
“I heard him making fun of it to one of the producers,” she said. “Like, ‘I can’t believe they didn’t get this one.'”
In response to hearing Oz’s alleged dig, Seaman said, “I was, like, ‘Cool, bro — let’s see you do this.'”
The Post reports Seaman, who lives in Texas, would have been on in April 2020 with the late Alex Trebek as host. Obviously, her appearance was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Seaman Says Show Guest Host Botched Category Title Badly
In the “Final Jeopardy!” round of one of Seaman’s two games, she claims Oz struggled to pronounced the category title: “Antidisestablishmentarianism.”
“He just couldn’t get it,” Seaman said. For instance, she says he had to re-record the segment “seven or eight times” due to his inability to say the word.
After that, Seaman added this piece of evidence to her claims.
“And more than that he couldn’t get it, he didn’t know when he hadn’t gotten it,” she said. “So it kind of seemed like the producers were like, ‘Are you gonna tell him that we’ve done this six times and he didn’t get it?'”
Similarly, Oz’s performance didn’t make him many friends who watch “Jeopardy!” on a regular basis. This week’s guest host, above all, has a bit better track record on the show. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a “Celebrity Jeopardy!” winner, finished up his two-week stint starting on Monday, April 12.
