Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? Maybe not, says Dr. Oz. The TV health personality and movie star Mark Wahlberg went back and forth on Instagram arguing the point last year.
Now, in the middle of his “Jeopardy!” guest host stint, Dr. Oz is bringing the feud back to light in the form of a “daily dose” clue.
‘Mark Wahlberg Challenged Dr. Oz Over How Essential This Meal of The Day Really Is
In early 2020, Dr. Oz spoke publicly about the benefits of intermittent fasting, a diet technique where all of a day’s meals are confined to a small time window. Evidently, Mark Wahlberg disagreed with the fasting technique and took to Instagram to share his thoughts. The movie star was looking ripped, alongside a doctor of his own.
“If you wanna challenge me, I’ll come hungover, eat a big steak, and you can do your little 20 pushups with one leg, your assisted pullup, I’m telling you, you’ll need a defibrillator when I’m done with you…” Wahlberg said.
Dr. Oz took the challenge personally, responding with a demonstration of his single-leg pushups and throwing down the gauntlet.
According to TMZ, the two men eventually met up and competed in a pushup battle. They raced to 59 pushups (Dr. Oz’s age at the time), with Wahlberg winning by a slim margin.
Now it makes perfect sense that someone like Mark Wahlberg would disapprove of skipping a meal, especially one like breakfast. He has posted stories on his Instagram laying out his workout regimen, which has him waking up for his first exercise at 2:30 in the morning. Someone with that kind of drive and activity would probably need to consume a lot more fuel than the average person.
Dr. Oz is a little bit older, and while he’s in great shape, likely doesn’t have as much need for the muscle mass of an action movie star. Perhaps both of them are right on this one.
